The vivid color palettes, created through layering processes of pouring, scraping, lifting, and imprinting, pull the viewer into her dreamy, contained environments.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_336347\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/ElizabethLaPennaMarmaladeSky3.jpg\"  rel=\"attachment wp-att-336347\" class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-336347\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-336347\" title=\"Marmalade Sky by Elizabeth LaPenna\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/ElizabethLaPennaMarmaladeSky3-480x360.jpg\" alt=\"Marmalade Sky by Elizabeth LaPenna\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-336347\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Marmalade Sky by Elizabeth LaPenna<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!--more-->Warm pieces such as Marmalade Sky are reminiscent of a walk through a bright, summer garden with its peaks of blue horizons amidst a flurry of golden orange swirls.<\/p>\n<p>The artist says \u201cI keep the paint moving in order to create texture and form, which becomes a balancing act between control and spontaneity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Elizabeth LaPenna is an award winning visual artist whose work is held in both private and corporate collections throughout the United States. Elizabeth\u2019s formal studies include Syracuse University, Syracuse, New York, Rollins College, Winter Park, Florida, Maitland Art Center, Maitland, Florida, and Central Piedmont Community College, Charlotte, North Carolina.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, LaPenna studied with artist Edith Ferillo, Sally Miller, Boyce Kendrick and Blaine Hall. Prior to becoming a full-time artist, Elizabeth worked as an artists\u2019 agent, gallery assistant, and art teacher. She was responsible for establishing the art department and teaching at Fairview School in Winter Park, Florida.<\/p>\n<p>She has also served on the board of directors and was exhibit chairman of the Charlotte, North Carolina Art League. She has been juried into various international group shows, such as Miami Spectrum 2015, and the upcoming Art Expo, N.Y.C.<\/p>\n<p>LaPenna was selected Tennessee Artist of the Year, 2015-2016, by Twin Cities EXPLORING TOSCA, as part of their American Artists Series. She is represented by A.D.C.\/Blink Art Resource, Cincinnati, Ohio.<\/p>\n<p>Elizabeth Lapenna: Expressions in Color will be on exhibit March 1st through May 1st. The original portion of the building was constructed in 1898 as a U.S. Post Office and Customs House for the flourishing tobacco trade. Incorporating a number of architectural styles, the original structure is one of the most photographed buildings in the region.<\/p>\n<p>With over 35,000 square feet of the region\u2019s best hands-on activities and special events\u2026people of all ages agree \u2013 the Customs House Museum is well worth the stop!<\/p>\n<p>The Explorer\u2019s Gallery is packed with fun, learning and fantasy in Aunt Alice\u2019s Attic, McGregor\u2019s Market and kitchen, and of course \u2013 the Bubble Cave! Finally, get \u201call aboard\u201d to see our fantastic model trains. Our volunteer engineers \u201cride the rails\u201d every Sunday afternoon from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.<\/p>\n<p>Regular museum hours are 10:00am to 5:00pm Tuesday through Saturday, and 1:00pm to 5:00pm on Sundays. Adult admission is $7.00, Senior Citizens and College ID $5.00, Ages 6 to 18 $3.00, and under six years and Museum members are free.<\/p>\n<p>The Customs House Museum is located at 200 South Second Street.
