Employing a wide variety of props, from the iPad, transducers and audio speakers, to piano wires, helium balloons and even her own breath, a whole range of sounds, vibrations and frequencies come into play.

She is persistently questioning what she calls “the ownership of sound” and highlighting the parameters, social values and sets of rules based around that which is constantly present and yet invisible to us all.

Her work has been exhibited and performed worldwide in venues such as the Museum of Modern Art; LEAP, Berlin; the Hull House Museum in Chicago; MoMA PS1, New York; nyMusikk, Oslo; Sound Live Tokyo, Tokyo; Southern Exposure, San Francisco; Art Basel in Hong Kong; and many more.

An ASL interpreter will be provided with generous support from APSU’s Disability Services.

For more information on this lecture, contact Michael Dickins, gallery director, at dickinsm@apsu.edu

Clarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University Department of Art and Design, with support from the APSU Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts, is pleased to welcome sound artist and two-time TED Fellow Christine Sun Kim to campus for a visiting artist lecture.
