{"id":21945,"date":"2016-02-02T20:00:35","date_gmt":"2016-02-03T02:00:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.discoverclarksville.com\/articles\/?p=21945"},"modified":"2016-02-02T16:58:14","modified_gmt":"2016-02-02T22:58:14","slug":"apsu-creative-writing-professor-dr-amy-wright-to-publish-four-books-in-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.discoverclarksville.com\/articles\/2016\/02\/02\/apsu-creative-writing-professor-dr-amy-wright-to-publish-four-books-in-2016\/","title":{"rendered":"APSU creative writing professor Dr. Amy Wright to publish four books in 2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-324279\" title=\"Austin Peay State University - APSU - logo\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Austin-Peay-State-University-APSU.jpg\" alt=\"Austin Peay State University - APSU - logo\" width=\"250\" height=\"64\" \/><strong>Clarksville, TN<\/strong> &#8211; Austin Peay State University Associate Professor of Creative Writing Dr. Amy Wright is preparing for a busy 2016, as the poet, author and teacher will publish four collections of her writing, including her fifth chapbook, \u201cWherever The Land Is.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A series of nonfiction essays comprised of the author\u2019s research into work, loss, Emily Dickinson, and entomophagy, or the human consumption of insects, \u201cWherever The Land Is\u201d explores a possible answer to humanity\u2019s growing need for food sources.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_334173\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/APSU-Professor-Amy-Wright.jpg\"  rel=\"attachment wp-att-334173\" class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-334173\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-334173\" title=\"Austin Peay State University Associate Professor of Creative Writing Dr. Amy Wright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/APSU-Professor-Amy-Wright-480x304.jpg\" alt=\"Austin Peay State University Associate Professor of Creative Writing Dr. Amy Wright\" width=\"480\" height=\"304\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-334173\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Austin Peay State University Associate Professor of Creative Writing Dr. Amy Wright<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!--more-->\u201cI\u2019d been doing a lot of research into human consumption of insects, because food sustainability is going to only become more of a problem for society,\u201d Wright said. \u201cAs we move toward 2050, the human population is expected to be somewhere around nine or 10 billion people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wright\u2019s research into the study of insects also spawned a side project, as she intends to publish a second full-length poetry collection, titled \u201cEverything in the Universe.\u201d Set for release with Iris Press this spring, Wright said the poetry collection was sparked by her fascination with the insects she researched for her prose chapbook.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs I was doing research, I grew interested in bugs and I began writing poetry about the biodiversity and different forms of communication I came across in my research,\u201d Wright said.<\/p>\n<p>Drawing inspiration from personal, as well as gathered tales of \u201clocal yodelers, spit turners and other holy mackerels,\u201d Wright\u2019s second poetry collection, \u201cCracker Sonnets,\u201d to be published by Brick Road Poetry Press, is a tribute to the cultural identity of the American South.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was born in Southwest Virginia, and I began thinking about all the joys and concerns and preoccupations that not just I have, but humanity has in general,\u201d Wright said. \u201cAnd, where I\u2019m from, many of those preoccupations are cultural. So as I began to embrace some of these aspects of my identity, I found that I had a lot of material with which I could work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A fourth, collaborative poetry collection is also in the works, titled \u201cCreeks of the Upper South.\u201d The collection represents a joint effort between Wright and William Wright, senior editor of the Southern Poetry Anthology.<\/p>\n<p>Sharing a similar cultural and geographical upbringing, Amy Wright and William Wright set about researching the many regional waterways and aquacultures in need of protection throughout the American Upper South.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;m from Southwestern Virginia, and (William Wright) lives in Georgia now, so we both have an affiliation with and respect for the Appalachian region,\u201d Wright said. \u201c(William) came up with the idea to collaborate on \u2018Creeks of the Upper South,\u2019 and it\u2019s been really nice having a project like this that I could pursue on the side.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>[320left]Amy Wright is the Nonfiction Editor of Zone 3 Press, the literary press of Austin Peay State University.
