The cave and its surrounding 110 acres have considerable scenic, natural and historical significance. The entrance offered shelter to prehistoric Native Americans as far back as 10,000 years.<\/p>\n<p>Dunbar Cave State Natural Area will present many nature programs during the year. Hike will begin at the parking lot next to the Visitor Center.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reservations required by:<\/strong> 4:30pm, September 8th.<br \/>\n<strong>Program Leader:<\/strong> Adam Neblett, Ranger<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Friends of Dunbar Cave Meeting<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Time:<\/strong> 6:00pm \u2013 7:00pm<br \/>\n<strong>Ages:<\/strong> Adults<\/p>\n<p>Join the Friends of Dunbar Cave and help support your park. Meet in AV room of Visitor Center.<\/p>\n<h3>Friday, September 11th<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Port Royal Hike<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Time:<\/strong> 12:30pm &#8211; 1:30pm<br \/>\n<strong>Ages:<\/strong> 12 &#8211; adult<\/p>\n<p>Learn the plants and animals of Port Royal. Hike will begin at the River Bottom Trail parking lot at Port Royal Historic Area.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reservations required by:<\/strong> 4:30pm, September 9th.<br \/>\n<strong>Program Leader:<\/strong> Amy Wallace, Interpretive Specialist<\/p>\n<h3>Saturday, September 12th<\/h3>\n<p>[320right]<strong>Port Royal Morning Hike<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Time:<\/strong> 8:30am &#8211; 9:30am<br \/>\n<strong>Ages:<\/strong> All Ages<\/p>\n<p>Take a hike on the trails offered by Dunbar Cave\u2019s sister park to learn a little about the history of the area and the wildlife seen in the area.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reservations required by:<\/strong> 4:30pm, September 10th.<br \/>\n<strong>Program Leader:<\/strong> Kala Downey, Seasonal Interpretive Ranger<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Eyes of the Night<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Time:<\/strong> 7:00pm \u2013 8:00pm<br \/>\n<strong>Ages:<\/strong> 5 \u2013 adult<\/p>\n<p>Did you know that the eyes of animals shine with different colors \u2013 spiders are emeralds or diamonds, bullfrogs look like opals \u2013 in reflected light? Bring your flashlight and join us for this short walk around the grounds to see what we can identify.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reservations required by:<\/strong> 4:30pm, September 10th.<br \/>\n<strong>Program Leader:<\/strong> Amy Wallace, Interpretive Specialist<\/p>\n<h3>Sunday, September 13th<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Volunteer Opportunity<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Time:<\/strong> 8:00am &#8211; 9:00am<br \/>\n<strong>Ages:<\/strong> 10 &#8211; Adult<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019ve ever taken the time to enjoy our butterfly garden, please take a little to come out and help us look after it. We\u2019ll be pulling weeds, so come prepared with work gloves and water.<\/p>\n<p>Many of you know the pains of weeding a garden and we\u2019d appreciate any time you could donate to us. In the process you\u2019ll get to learn a few things about our native plants in the area and what we have available in our garden. These days it\u2019s just plain fun. All programs require reservations by the Deadline Listed.
