The cave and its surrounding 110 acres have considerable scenic, natural and historical significance. The entrance offered shelter to prehistoric Native Americans as far back as 10,000 years.<\/p>\n<p>Dunbar Cave State Natural Area will present many nature programs during the year. Meet at the River Bottom Trail parking lot.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reservations Required by:<\/strong> 4:30pm, August 23rd.<br \/>\n<strong>Program Leader:<\/strong> Adam Neblett, Park Ranger<\/p>\n<h3>Wednesday, August 26th<\/h3>\n<p><strong>The Secret World of Bats<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Time:<\/strong> 3:00pm \u2013 3:45pm<br \/>\n<strong>Ages:<\/strong> 8 \u2013 adult<\/p>\n<p>See bats as we could never see them here through this award-winning nature documentary.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reservations Required by:<\/strong> 4:30pm, August 24th.<br \/>\n<strong>Program Leader:<\/strong> Amy Wallace, Interpretive Specialist<\/p>\n<h3>Thursday, August 27th<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Night Hike<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Time:<\/strong> 7:30pm \u2013 8:30pm<br \/>\n<strong>Ages:<\/strong> All ages<\/p>\n<p>We will walk the Short Loop Trail as the sun sets and darkness rises\u2013 we might hear owls, frogs and other creatures as we go.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reservations Required by:<\/strong> 4:30pm, August 25th.<br \/>\n<strong>Program Leader:<\/strong> Adam Neblett, Ranger<\/p>\n<h3>Friday, August 28th<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Cave Hike<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Time:<\/strong> 10:00am \u2013 11:30am<br \/>\n<strong>Ages: <\/strong>5 \u2013 adult<\/p>\n<p>Due to the presence of White Nose Syndrome (WNS) in our cave, clean caving protocols are in effect. Each person must bring two pairs of shoes- boots or shoes with good traction, and any type of footwear to change into so that the WNS fungus is not carried out on your shoes. The park will provide bags and instructions on cleaning the shoes so that we do not spread WNS to other areas.<\/p>\n<p>[320left]The hike is not handicap accessible and not recommended for people with mobility issues. Every person on a cave hike must sign a release of liability waiver, and bring a working flashlight. Cost: $10.00 ages 13 +, $5.00 ages 5 \u2013 12 (for safety reasons, no children under age 5 are allowed.)<\/p>\n<p>Reservations are required and can be made only during office hours (8:00am &#8211; 4:30pm Monday-Friday), and can be made by phone or in person. Wear clothes you\u2019re willing to get wet and shoes that can stay on your feet. Bring work gloves and water. In the process you\u2019ll learn about our native plants and what we have in our garden. Grab some work gloves and take the week\u2019s frustrations out on an invasive species (looks great on resumes). Bring water and wear bug spray. All programs require reservations by the Deadline Listed.
