We had been doing a decent job recycling and had already been adjusting the thermostats in the evenings and weekends to save money.”

“In December of last year we had an energy assessment done in the historic courthouse and worked with facilities maintenance to first address all of the cost-free items listed,” said Matthews. “The heaters in the stairwells were disconnected, we found that our building was overly lit in some areas so we eliminated bulbs, consolidated and removed unnecessary equipment and found opportunities to use less paper. In addition, an email message is sent every Friday to remind employees to power off computers and other equipment for the weekend.”

One of the biggest savings in costs and resources came from the combined work of the employees in the accounts and budgets and human resources offices, who worked to convert from paper to electronic paystubs for county employees. The estimated savings is nine thousand dollars annually.

If your business has an interest in learning more about the Clarksville-Montgomery County Green Certification Program email Michelle Newell at manewell@mcgtn.net or call 931.245.1867.

Montgomery County, TN – Montgomery County Historic Courthouse is the latest government building to become Clarksville-Montgomery County Green Certified.
