{"id":20733,"date":"2015-06-25T18:00:47","date_gmt":"2015-06-25T23:00:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.discoverclarksville.com\/articles\/?p=20733"},"modified":"2015-06-25T13:12:31","modified_gmt":"2015-06-25T18:12:31","slug":"apsu-professor-dr-korre-foster-to-conduct-academie-de-musique-choir-in-paris","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.discoverclarksville.com\/articles\/2015\/06\/25\/apsu-professor-dr-korre-foster-to-conduct-academie-de-musique-choir-in-paris\/","title":{"rendered":"APSU professor Dr. Korre Foster to conduct Acad\u00e9mie de Musique choir in Paris"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-53068\" title=\"The APSU Music Department \" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/APSU-music-200x141.jpg\" alt=\"The APSU Music Department\" width=\"200\" height=\"141\" \/><strong>Clarksville, TN<\/strong> &#8211; In partnership with the French Acad\u00e9mie de Musique, Austin Peay State University assistant professor of music Dr. Korre Foster will conduct a trio of choral performances in July in Paris.<\/p>\n<p>Under a French-American exchange supported through a grant from the Florence Gould Foundation, Foster will be working with the Acad\u00e9mie\u2019s Chamber Choir, a collection of university, college and conservatory students gathered from throughout France.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_315415\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/APSU-Dr.-Korre-Foste.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-315415\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-315415\" title=\"Austin Peay professor Dr. Korre Foster\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/APSU-Dr.-Korre-Foste-480x360.jpg\" alt=\"Austin Peay professor Dr. Korre Foster\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-315415\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Austin Peay professor Dr. Korre Foster<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!--more-->From July 9th-11th, Foster will be conducting three shows in Paris, including performances at the Church of Sainte-Elisabeth (July 9th), Saint-Lambert de Vaugirard (July 10th) and H\u00f4pital Jean-Jaur\u00e8s (July 11th).<\/p>\n<p>The theme of the performances will be \u201cAmerican choral music\u201d &#8212; or more specifically, a collection of United States\u2019 spiritual choral music.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was approached by (Acad\u00e9mie conductor) Jean-Philippe Sarcos last summer and he brought up the idea of this series,\u201d Foster said. \u201cI was asked if I could put together a sort of chronological approach to sacred American choral music, so I\u2019ve been working to put together a program that covers a number of styles.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The performances will include works from composers William Billings (Early American), Paul Christiansen (Lutheran Tradition) and Stacey Gibbs (Spiritual), as well as \u201cThe Conversion of Saul,\u201d a work from composer Z. Randall Stroope and \u201cAlleluia,\u201d as arranged by Ralph Manuel.<\/p>\n<p>Also included will be works from APSU professor Jeffrey Wood, as well as Morten Lauridsen, a longtime professor of composition at the University of Southern California.<\/p>\n<p>Much like the ethnic diversity in the United States itself, Foster\u2019s choral selections were designed to portray the diversity of American spiritual music to an audience that may otherwise be unfamiliar.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI really wanted to put together a well-rounded program, while still working under the very specific scope of \u2018sacred American choral music,\u2019\u201d Foster said. \u201cIt would be easy when you\u2019re doing spiritual music to put together a collection of slower songs, but I wanted to make sure that we also included powerful music and music from Judaic and other faiths that make up \u2018American spiritual\u2019 music.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Prior to arriving at APSU, Foster lived in Paris, where he conducted the choirs of Le Palais Royal and L\u2019Acad\u00e9mie de Musique alongside Sarcos.
