{"id":20114,"date":"2015-03-30T10:00:57","date_gmt":"2015-03-30T15:00:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.discoverclarksville.com\/articles\/?p=20114"},"modified":"2015-03-30T05:15:09","modified_gmt":"2015-03-30T10:15:09","slug":"apsu-students-do-service-work-in-north-carolina","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.discoverclarksville.com\/articles\/2015\/03\/30\/apsu-students-do-service-work-in-north-carolina\/","title":{"rendered":"APSU students do service work in North Carolina"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-47306\" title=\"Austin Peay State University - APSU\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/apsu-logo-200x123.jpg\" alt=\"Austin Peay State University - APSU\" width=\"200\" height=\"123\" \/><strong>Clarksville, TN<\/strong> &#8211; In March, 11th Austin Peay State University students spent their spring break volunteering with the Autism Society of North Carolina\u2019s Camp Royall, collectively completing 275 hours of community service.<\/p>\n<p>From March 7th-14th, students traveled to Moncure, North Carolina, to spend a week doing camp maintenance in preparation for summer camp, and volunteering for afternoon sessions of camp. The students took a side trip to Wilmington, to visit the ocean before committing to five days of work for Camp Royall. <!--more-->The group stayed in a camp cabin during their trip to get the real camp experience.<\/p>\n<p>Volunteer work included painting and landscaping, as well as working directly with campers through an after school program and field day trips for school-aged children with autism.<\/p>\n<p>The Alternative Break program is organized by the Center for Service Learning &amp; Community Engagement at APSU.
