That means some of the glamour and energy of the big New York shows will begin trickling into the University\u2019s Trahern Theater.<\/p>\n<p>Later this month, the department will offer a sneak peak of that program with its new show, \u201cBroadway on the Cumberland.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Broadway-on-the-Cumberland.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-289486\" title=\"\u201cBroadway on the Cumberland\u201d to show November 20th-23rd at Austin Peay State University.\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Broadway-on-the-Cumberland-480x304.jpg\" alt=\"\u201cBroadway on the Cumberland\u201d to show November 20th-23rd at Austin Peay State University.\" width=\"480\" height=\"304\" \/><\/a><!--more-->The musical revue, which features songs and scenes from 17 Broadway shows, will run at 7:30pm November 20th-22nd, and at 2:00pm on November 23rd in the Trahern Theater.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is a ton of repertoire in the musical theatre genre, so as we prepare to launch these new degrees, this is a wonderful way to expose the students, the faculty, the community and the audience to repertoire they may know, may not know or may never have seen performed,\u201d Dr. Christopher Bailey, APSU assistant professor of musical theater, said.<\/p>\n<p>Bailey picked some of his favorite musical numbers for the evening, making sure to include songs from the 1920s through the 21st century. The audience will hear pieces from shows such as \u201cMusic Man,\u201d \u201cAnnie Get Your Gun,\u201d \u201cGuys and Dolls,\u201d \u201cWicked\u201d and \u201cThe Lion King.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe other thing I\u2019ve done is I\u2019ve included a few things from \u2018Riverdance,\u2019\u201d Bailey said. \u201cPeople might not remember that it ran on Broadway.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bailey is serving as the show\u2019s director and musical director, but Marcus Hayes, APSU associate professor of dance, has choreographed the routines to go along with the \u201cRiverdance\u201d number.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we can bring morsels of Broadway to this community, that\u2019s what I\u2019m after,\u201d Bailey said.<\/p>\n<p>To help recreate a bit of that Broadway razzle-dazzle, Bailey commissioned a set that pays tribute to the art deco stage designs of the 1920s. A four-piece band, led by APSU pianist Matt McNeill, will be in the orchestra pit, and during the second half of the show, the cast will perform in formal gowns and tuxedoes with tails.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m so excited, and I hope this becomes an annual event,\u201d Bailey said.<\/p>\n<p>The cast for \u201cBroadway on the Cumberland\u201d includes APSU students Sam Mynhier, Jamila Hunter, Lauren Lynch, Lauren Proctor, Maggie Jackson, Emily Seifert, Kaitlyn Williams, Nathan Brown and Patrick Pride.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets are $5.00 for students\/military\/senior citizens and $10.00 for general admissions.
