{"id":19012,"date":"2014-10-10T20:13:17","date_gmt":"2014-10-11T01:13:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.discoverclarksville.com\/articles\/?p=19012"},"modified":"2014-10-10T20:13:17","modified_gmt":"2014-10-11T01:13:17","slug":"montgomery-county-sheriffs-office-daymar-institute-to-host-domestic-violence-awareness-event-tomorrow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.discoverclarksville.com\/articles\/2014\/10\/10\/montgomery-county-sheriffs-office-daymar-institute-to-host-domestic-violence-awareness-event-tomorrow\/","title":{"rendered":"Montgomery County Sheriff\u2019s Office, Daymar Institute to host Domestic Violence Awareness event tomorrow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-46847 size-full\" title=\"Montgomery County Sheriff's Office - MCSO\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/mcso.png\" alt=\"Montgomery County Sheriff's Office - MCSO\" width=\"144\" height=\"141\" \/><strong>Montgomery County, TN<\/strong> &#8211; Organizers hope an event tomorrow will help raise awareness of domestic violence and local victims.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy Peggy Macias said the \u201cRemember My Name\u201d event was first brought to Montgomery County in October 2013, during Domestic Violence Awareness month, to Kenwood High School in memory of assistant principal Pam Cooper, who was killed by her ex-husband.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_284642\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Remember-My-Name.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-284642\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-284642\" title=\"Remember My Name\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Remember-My-Name-480x318.jpg\" alt=\"Remember My Name\" width=\"480\" height=\"318\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-284642\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Remember My Name<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!--more-->This year, the event will take place from 10:00am to 2:00pm Civic Hall in Veteran\u2019s Plaza on Pageant Lane. It will include the Clarksville Clothesline Project, the Silent Witness Project and Dreams to Screams.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast year, there were a total of 18 life-sized silhouettes that debut, each with a gold shield on them that tells who they were and what happened to them,\u201d Macias said. \u201cThis year, we have added 14 new silhouettes, all of which represent men, women and children murdered in this community from domestic violence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot all of these people were born and raised here, but they all have one thing in common \u2013 they all died here,\u201d Macias added. \u201cSome were beaten, stabbed, shot, strangled and set on fire.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Of the silhouettes exhibited, three were active-duty soldiers stationed at Fort Campbell, and this year\u2019s event is dedicated to them \u2013 PFC Ashley Barnes and SPC Shardae Wright.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAshley\u2019s mom, Michelle, is traveling to our event from Alabama and Shardae\u2019s mom, Retha, will be traveling here from Mississippi,\u201d Macias added. \u201cThere will be other local family members present.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The event will also feature a free lunch, while supplies last, a drawing for a 65\u201d Vizio High Definition television, and open truck and car show hosted by Corvettes of Clarksville, a silent auction to benefit Safehouse and activities for children including a Home Depot Kid\u2019s Workshop.<\/p>\n<p>The event is co-hosted by the Montgomery County Sheriff\u2019s Office and Daymar Institute.
