In the month of August, the Museum will feature Leslie Shiels: Dizygotic, Women Painting Women, Recent Works by Susan Bryant and Billy Renkl, Richard Hogan: My View, Margaret Evangeline: From the Collection, Aletha Carr: New Connections, Children\u2019s Room: The Wonders of Light, Family Day: Bubble Blast in the Courtyard, Let\u2019s Find: Bugs, Fall Break Model Trains, Art & Lunch Film: Man Ray: Prophet of Avant-Garde, and Pumpkin Palooza.<\/p>\n

Ohio artist Leslie Shiels explores the concept of twins through depictions of animals. The paintings in this series are mirror images that are supported by the allegory of Fraternal twins; very much the same but completely different and sometimes opposite.<\/p>\n

Aletha Carr: New Connections<\/strong>

Carr\u2019s assemblages consist of discarded objects, such as marbles, action figures, and electronics. Her work is a reminder of our collective history, and observing it is an act of remembering and re-interpreting.<\/p>\n

This Month in the Children\u2019s Room: The Wonders of Light<\/strong>
\nTuesday \u2013 Friday: 10:00am\u20135:00pm, Saturday: 10:00am\u201312:00pm<\/p>\n

October\u2019s activities feature shadows, optical illusions, reflections, prisms, mirrors, books, puzzles, crafts, toys, games, poems, and the eye, as well as the sun, moon, and stars. Activities vary weekly. The Children\u2019s Room is located in the Kimbrough Gallery. These activities are included in your regular admission.<\/p>\n

Family Day: Bubble Blast in the Courtyard<\/strong>
\nSaturday, October 4th, 10:00am\u20133:00pm<\/p>\n

Come test our bubble-makers or bring one of your own. Remember, just about anything you can blow through is a potential bubble-maker. The activities in the courtyard are free to all. Regular admission will be charged for touring the museum. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held October 25th, from 10:00am\u20133:00pm<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s Find: Bugs<\/strong>
\nOctober 8th & 9th, 10:30am\u201311:30am<\/p>\n

Children 2 \u2013 5 years old and their adults are invited to help Ms. Sue look for bugs in the museum. We will also read a story and make a craft. This activity is free with your paid admission or museum membership. Siblings are always welcome.<\/p>\n

Fall Break Model Trains<\/strong>
\nOur model trains will be making special runs for Fall Break!
\nOctober 14th & 16th, 1:00pm\u20133:00pm and October 15th & 17th, 10:00am\u201312:00pm<\/p>\n

Art & Lunch Film: Man Ray: Prophet of Avant-Garde<\/strong>
\nOctober 23rd, 12:00pm<\/p>\n

Bring your lunch and enjoy a film on artist Man Ray. In conjunction with the exhibit Even When: Recent Works by Susan Bryant and Billy Renkl. Free admission to film. Bagged lunches welcome.<\/p>\n

Pumpkin Palooza<\/strong>
\nOctober 28th, 6:00pm\u20138:00pm<\/p>\n

The Customs House Museum will be holding a carved and painted pumpkin contest in both youth (ages 10-17) and adult (ages 18 and up) categories. Entry fee is $3.00 for youth and $5.00 for adults. Entries will be accepted October 24th and 25th. A Pumpkin Palooza event will be held on Oct. 28th, where ribbons and awards will be announced.<\/p>\n

Palooza admission is free to contestants or anyone in costume! For contest guidelines and how to enter, see our website at www.customshousemuseum.org<\/a><\/p>\n

The Museum will be closed Monday, October 13th for Columbus Day.<\/p>\n

Finally, get \u201call aboard\u201d to see our fantastic model trains. Our volunteer engineers \u201cride the rails\u201d every Sunday afternoon from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.<\/p>\n

Regular museum hours are 10:00am to 5:00pm Tuesday through Saturday, and 1:00pm to 5:00pm on Sundays. Adult admission is $7.00, Senior Citizens and College ID $5.00, Ages 6 to 18 $3.00, and under six years and Museum members are free.<\/p>\n
