The cave and its surrounding 110 acres have considerable scenic, natural and historical significance. The entrance offered shelter to prehistoric Native Americans as far back as 10,000 years.<\/p>\n<p>Dunbar Cave State Natural Area will present many nature programs this summer. Please meet me at the Visitors Center or join us at Swan Lake beside the Visitors Center as I bring out different equipment and discuss the different techniques of fishing in Middle Tennessee.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reservations By:<\/strong> 4:30pm July 11th.<br \/>\n<strong>Program Leader:<\/strong> Shawn Settle, Seasonal Interpretive Ranger<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Lake Life*<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Time:<\/strong> 2:00pm \u2013 3:30pm<br \/>\n<strong>Ages:<\/strong> 4-adult<\/p>\n<p>What lives in the lake? We\u2019ll walk around the easy Lake Trail and learn about aquatic plants and animals like turtles, frogs and beavers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reservations By:<\/strong> 4:30pm July 11th.<br \/>\n<strong>Program Leader:<\/strong> Adam Neblett, Park Ranger<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Easy Night Hike*<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Time:<\/strong> 8:00pm \u2013 9:00pm<br \/>\n<strong>Ages:<\/strong> All ages<\/p>\n<p>If you aren\u2019t able to do the longer night hikes we have, come out for this easy hike around the lake. Or neat animals? Meet at the upper parking lot (beside the Visitor Center).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reservations By:<\/strong> 4:30pm July 13th.<br \/>\n<strong>Program Leader:<\/strong> Adam Neblett, Ranger<\/p>\n<h3>Thursday, July 17th<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Nature Boot Camp<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Time:<\/strong> 5:30am \u2013 6:30am<br \/>\n<strong>Ages:<\/strong> 14 &#8211; adult<\/p>\n<p>Want to learn different ways to use nature as a gym? Let us show you how to use things found on the park as gym equipment and train to use the human body how nature intended. Classes are on Thursdays and Saturdays through July 26th (you don\u2019t have to come to every class).<\/p>\n<p>Please make reservations as space is limited.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Port Royal Plant Walk<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Time:<\/strong> 9:00am \u2013 10:00am<br \/>\n<strong>Ages:<\/strong> 10 &#8211; adult<\/p>\n<p>Walk the River Bottom Trail (1\/2 mile) and learn the trees and other plants of the area.<\/p>\n<p>Meet at the River Bottom Trail parking lot.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reservations By:<\/strong> 4:30pm July 15th.<br \/>\n<strong>Program Leader:<\/strong> Amy Wallace, Interpretive Specialist<\/p>\n<h3>Friday, July 18th<\/h3>\n<p>[320right]<strong>Morning Nature Hike*<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Time:<\/strong> 7:00am \u2013 8:30am<br \/>\n<strong>Ages:<\/strong> 5 and Up<\/p>\n<p>Bring your walking sticks as we make a 2 mile hike around the natural area trails. We will see what animals will show themselves and will discuss some of the plant life seen along the trail. The hike will be at a slow pace but will be moderately strenuous due to terrain. Please have shoes that are good for hiking, clothing that can get dirty and be ready to ask questions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reservations By:<\/strong> 4:30pm July 16th.<br \/>\n<strong>Program Leader:<\/strong> Shawn Settle, Seasonal Interpretive Ranger<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Trees Are Terrific*<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Time:<\/strong> 9:30am \u2013 11:30am<br \/>\n<strong>Ages:<\/strong> 5 &#8211; adult<\/p>\n<p>Learn about the trees around you on this easy walk around the grounds.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reservations By:<\/strong> 4:30pm July 16th.<br \/>\n<strong>Program Leader:<\/strong> Adam Neblett, Park Ranger<\/p>\n<h3>Saturday, July 19th<\/h3>\n<p><strong>National Moth Week<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Time:<\/strong> 8:00pm \u2013 9:30pm<br \/>\n<strong>Ages:<\/strong> All Ages<\/p>\n<p>Bring your cameras and field guides out to Dunbar Cave to see what kinds of moths we can find in our light trap. We will set up a very specialized attractant to bring in moths and other nocturnal insects. All species found will be turned in to the Butterflies and Moths of North America database.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reservations By:<\/strong> 4:30pm July 17th.<br \/>\n<strong>Program Leader:<\/strong> Shawn Settle, Seasonal Interpretive Ranger<\/p>\n<h3>Dunbar Cave State Park Programs Information<\/h3>\n<p>Programs are free unless noted otherwise. All programs require reservations by the Deadline Listed.
