He spent a week in the South American nation, traveling to museums and dance centers, and he was struck to discover that many of the dances had their origins in Africa.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt went even further than I thought,\u201d he said. \u201cBecause of the colonization of South America and the introduction of slavery, West African dance is infused in Latin American dances.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/2014-APSU-Spring-dance-poster.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-206647\" title=\"APSU's 8th Annual Spring Dance Concert\" alt=\"APSU's 8th Annual Spring Dance Concert\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/2014-APSU-Spring-dance-poster-480x360.jpg\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" \/><\/a><!--more-->When Hayes returned, he choreographed an Afro-Colombian dance based on his research, and that work, \u201cMedell\u00edn Dreams,\u201d will be performed during the APSU Department of Theatre and Dance\u2019s Eighth Annual Spring Dance Concert.<\/p>\n<p>The concert is at 7:30pm on February 19th-22nd, and 2:00pm on Sunday, February 23rd, in the Trahern Theatre. The cost is $5.00 for students and military, $10.00 for adults, and tickets can be purchased at <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.austinpeaytickets.com\" >www.austinpeaytickets.com<\/a>, or by contacting the box office at <a href=\"mailto:boxoffice@apsu.edu\">boxoffice@apsu.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to \u201cMedell\u00edn Dreams,\u201d the concert will feature a ballet by Hayes, a jazzy\/modern piece by Brian Vernon, chair of the APSU Department of Theatre and Dance, and two pieces by Margaret Rennerfeldt, APSU assistant professor of dance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of Margaret\u2019s pieces is a ballet comedy, and the other is a really interesting piece using Velcro,\u201d Hayes said. \u201cThe costumes are covered in Velcro, and the dancers stick together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Last fall, APSU students presented their choreographed dances to the faculty, and the best pieces were selected for the spring concert.
