He opened up a dress shop in Nashville, catering to the \u201cUpper Society\u201d crowd. When he eventually decided to close shop and move to Palmyra, TN to concentrate on his art, the ladies soon found him and he went back to dressmaking. This exhibit features his clothing, art and a recreation of his sewing room.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TACA Regional Exhibition<\/strong><br \/>\nJanuary 15th &#8211; March 30th<\/p>\n<p>23 members of the Tennessee Association of Craft Artists exhibit tapestries, carvings, sculptures, paintings, embroideries, &amp; photography.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Of Glaze &amp; Kiln: The Art of Melody &amp; Ken Shipley<\/strong><br \/>\nJanuary 9th &#8211; March 2nd<\/p>\n<p>Local potters Melody and Ken Shipley exhibit a variety of their ceramic pieces.<\/p>\n<h3>Activities<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Let\u2019s Find: Pitchers &amp; Pots<\/strong><br \/>\nFebruary 5th &amp; 6th, 10:30am\u201311:30am<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m a little teapot short and stout. I\u2019m looking for my cousins. Won\u2019t you help me out?\u201d This month children 3 \u2013 5 years old and their grown-ups are invited to help Ms. Sue look for the teapot\u2019s cousins in the exhibit, Of Glaze and Kiln: The Art of Melody and Ken Shipley. We will also read a story and make a craft.<\/p>\n<p>This activity is free with your museum membership or paid admission. Siblings are always welcome.<\/p>\n<p>For program information contact Ms. Sue at 931.648.5780.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sunday Family Fun: Crafting a Log House<\/strong><br \/>\nFebruary 23rd, 1:00pm\u20134:00pm<\/p>\n<p>Logs were used to build the earliest homes in Montgomery County. Built in the 1840s, the Power\u2019s family log house in the Memory Lane gallery was still in use well into the 20th century. Check out the construction of the Powers\u2019 family log house in Memory Lane, and then visit the classroom to do some building of your own using craft sticks and glue.<\/p>\n<p>This event is free with your museum membership or paid admission.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Art &amp; Lunch Film: Calder &#8211; Sculptor of Air<\/strong><br \/>\nThursday, February 6th, 12:05pm<\/p>\n<p>Artist Alexander Calder (1898-1976) revolutionized the art of sculpture with his distinctive modernism, freeing sculpture from its stand and adding movement to the art itself. He rose to fame in the 1930s with his renowned Miniature Circus, but his modernist creativity skyrocketed with his wire sculptures, an invention he dubbed &#8216;drawing in space&#8217;. Finally, get \u201call aboard\u201d to see our fantastic model trains. Our volunteer engineers \u201cride the rails\u201d every Sunday afternoon from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.<\/p>\n<p>Regular museum hours are 10:00am to 5:00pm Tuesday through Saturday, and 1:00pm to 5:00pm on Sundays.
