The piece was about 200 years old, but after two centuries of neglect, Vivaldi\u2019s \u201cGloria\u201d struck a cord with Casella\u2019s audience. The Baroque masterwork, originally composed as part of the Catholic Mass, is now a holiday staple, performed in churches across the globe each December.<\/p>\n<p>At 3 p.m. on Dec. 8, the Gateway Chamber Orchestra and Choir will feature the famed work at the Madison Street United Methodist Church during the GCO\u2019s second annual Winter Baroque Concert.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_89916\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/Gateway-Chamber-Orchestra.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-89916\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-89916 \" title=\"Gateway Chamber Orchestra\" alt=\"Gateway Chamber Orchestra\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/Gateway-Chamber-Orchestra-480x354.jpg\" width=\"480\" height=\"354\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-89916\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Gateway Chamber Orchestra<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re turning our attention to one of the most popular choral works in the repertoire,\u201d Dr. Gregory Wolynec, conductor and musical director of the GCO, said. \u201cIt\u2019s one of the most ambitious works we\u2019ve done so far this year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Vivaldi piece is only part of a challenging but entertaining program that features such Baroque composers as Arcangelo Corelli, Alessandro Scarlatti and Johann Sebastian Bach.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBaroque music has long been associated with the holidays,\u201d Wolynec said<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd the selections we\u2019ve chosen are a good way to welcome in the holiday season.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_153303\" style=\"width: 210px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-153303\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-153303\" title=\"Gateway Chamber Orchestra\" alt=\"Gateway Chamber Orchestra\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/GCO-200x116.jpg\" width=\"200\" height=\"116\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-153303\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Gateway Chamber Orchestra<\/p><\/div>\n<p>What makes the Winter Baroque Concert such an anticipated event each year is the inclusion of the Gateway Chamber Choir. Two years ago, Dr. Douglas Rose, chair of the APSU Department of Music, recruited dozens of talented, local singers to perform with this professional choir.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe choir is made up of a number of talented community members, and Doug will lead them in two a cappella choir works, one by Bach,\u201d Wolynec said.<\/p>\n<p>Many of the works on the Winter Baroque program were originally intended to be performed in a church setting, which is why the orchestra hosts the concert each December at to the Madison Street United Methodist Church.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBaroque music in a church resonates well this time of year,\u201d Wolynec said.<\/p>\n<p>The program also will feature Hollie Dueker and Andrea Ramos singing soprano and Christopher Mitchell singing countertenor. Dr. Lisa Wolynec, APSU professor of music, will perform on flute, and Dr. Jeannette Zyko, APSU assistant professor of music, will play oboe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd the program will end like last year with an audience sing-along on some very popular holiday carols,\u201d Wolynec said.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The Winter Baroque concert is part of the orchestra\u2019s 2013-14 season. Tickets are $15.00 for adults, $10.00 for students and active duty military, and $40.00 for a family of four.
