\"ClarksvilleClarksville, TN<\/strong> – On Friday, November 15th, 2013, Officer Keith Jones and his K-9 partner, Koda, graduated from the Southern Police Canine Inc. training in Nashville, NC.<\/p>\n

Officer Jones, the handler, was trained to be well-versed in canine safety and health care, and legal updates and considerations. Handler training was subjected to numerous survival techniques.<\/p>\n

Koda, the canine, was trained in the following:<\/h3>\n
    \n
  1. Obedience and control, including hand commands,<\/li>\n
  2. Agility- to enable him to surmount various obstacles,<\/li>\n
  3. Evidence search,<\/li>\n
  4. Area search- for the presence of humans,<\/li>\n
  5. To search indoors or covered structures for the presence of humans,<\/li>\n
  6. To enter and exit vehicles in various ways,<\/li>\n
  7. To track,<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
      \n
    1. To protect his handler and himself from physical threat(s),<\/li>\n
    2. To apprehend on command,<\/li>\n
    3. To release on command,<\/li>\n
    4. To recall from pursuit on command,<\/li>\n
    5. And to detect and locate various illegal narcotics.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Sgt. Odell (Sgt. over the K-9 team), K-9 Officer Jones, Koda, and Capt. Gipson (Capt. over the Special Operations Unit)<\/p><\/div>\n

      Each handler was required to obtain an 80% proficiency in a written examination to receive certification from Southern Police Canine Inc.<\/p>\n
