In the month of October, the Museum will feature Tom Malone: Art from Influence, Dane Carder: Ghosts and Hopes, Entangled Roots: The Art of Jennifer Bowman, The Surreal World of Mindy Herrin, Cindy Billingsley: Wild Ones, Day of the Dead, Laying Low, Let\u2019s Find: Eyes, Sunday Family Fun: Making Faces, and Fall Break Special Model Trains.<\/p>\n

Tom Malone: Art from Influence<\/strong>
\nThrough October 20th<\/p>\n

The exhibit Tom Malone: Art from Influence shows the artist\u2019s progression and development through chronological representations of the human form. Early pieces reveal innocence in style, a more simplistic approach. As he works through the years, Tom\u2019s figures become stronger, more confident in his application of color.<\/p>\n

Dane Carder: Ghosts and Hopes<\/strong>
\nOctober 23rd \u2013 January 12th<\/p>\n

\u201cThis body of work is not simply about the Civil War. It is about an emotion: the layered, all-encompassing emotion that accompanies a life lived. It is about being passionate enough to fight, compassionate enough to grieve, honest enough to be open. It is about ghosts and hopes.\u201d – Dane Carder<\/p>\n

Entangled Roots: The Art of Jennifer Bowman<\/strong>
\nOctober 4th \u2013 January 5th<\/p>\n

Being a self-taught artist has given Jennifer the freedom to explore and experiment while absorbing inspiration from nature, the city streets, a rustic old warehouse, or even a quiet afternoon. While utilizing a variety of mediums she creates layers of rich earth tones consisting of mostly acrylic, coffee, glaze, and oil, with a foundation of molding paste for a textural effect.<\/p>\n

The Surreal World of Mindy Herrin<\/strong><\/p>\n

[320right]Mindy Herrin is a metal smithing professor, sculptor, and figurative artist.<\/p>\n

\u201cI use elements of nature and the body to create narrative objects, jewelry, and sculpture. My pieces are fabricated, or made from parts in order to contrast organic and mechanical imagery. I use mechanisms to creature visual structure, perform a function, or define a restriction. For me it is necessary to cross the lines of reality when describing a concept, or idea.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cindy Billingsley: Wild Ones<\/strong>
\nOctober 23rd \u2013 January 5th<\/p>\n

Award-winning wildlife sculptor and painter exhibits new works in the Kimbrough gallery<\/p>\n

Day of the Dead<\/strong>
\nOctober 2nd \u2013 December 1st<\/p>\n

Lobby exhibit including art coffins by Atlanta-based Neoclassical Southern Gothic artist Margaret Mroczek, a Day of the Dead altar, and Retablos and ex-votos from the collection of Olen Bryant<\/p>\n

Laying Low<\/strong>
\nSaturday, October 12th, 5:00 \u2013 10:00 p.m.<\/p>\n

The 3rd Annual Laying Low is an outdoor festival style event to benefit the Customs House Museum. Enjoy a casual evening with beer, barbecue, and live music by The Beagles! Limited tickets are available at $50 per person. To purchase tickets call Linda Maki at 931.648.5780.<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s Find: Eyes<\/strong>
\nOctober 9th & 10th, 10:30am \u2013 11:30am<\/p>\n

Children 3 \u2013 5 years old and their grown-ups are invited to explore the museum from a child\u2019s perspective. This month we will be looking for all kinds of eyes: people eyes, animal eyes, and even some googly eyes. We will also read a story and make a craft.<\/p>\n

This activity is free to museum members. Non-members pay the regular adult admission of $7.00, plus $1.00 per child. Siblings are always welcome. For more information contact Sue Lewis at 931.648.5780.<\/p>\n

Sunday Family Fun: Making Faces<\/strong>
\nOctober 27th, 1:00pm \u2013 5:00pm<\/p>\n

Happy faces, scary faces, people faces, animal faces, even clock faces \u2013 with a mask you can pretend to be whatever or whoever you would like to be. Join us this Sunday for mask-making fun that\u2019s not just for Halloween. This event is free with your museum membership or paid admission. Fall Break Special Model Trains<\/strong><\/p>\n

Thanks to our volunteer engineers, the model trains will be making special runs on October 15th and 16th from 10:00am to 12:00pm and on October 17th and 18th from 12:00pm to 2:00pm.<\/p>\n

Funded, designed, and maintained solely by hundreds of volunteers, the model trains exhibit has fascinated and delighted more than half a million visitors since 1989.<\/p>\n

The museum will be closed Monday, October 14th for Columbus Day.<\/p>\n

Located in the heart of historic downtown Clarksville, Tennessee, the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center is the State\u2019s second largest general museum. With over 35,000 square feet of the region\u2019s best hands-on activities and special events\u2026people of all ages agree \u2013 the Customs House Museum is well worth the stop!<\/p>\n

Regular museum hours are 10:00am to 5:00pm Tuesday through Saturday, and 1:00pm to 5:00pm on Sundays. Adult admission is $7.00, Sr. Citizens and College ID $5.00, Ages 6 to 18 $3.00, and under six years and Museum members are free.<\/p>\n
