The cave and its surrounding 110 acres have considerable scenic, natural and historical significance. The entrance offered shelter to prehistoric Native Americans as far back as 10,000 years.<\/p>\n<p>Dunbar Cave State Natural Area will present many nature programs this summer. There are programs for children and adults.<\/p>\n<p>Upcoming events include:Wildflower Walk, Fishing Equipment and Techniques, History of Port Royal, Evening Trail Hike, APSU Bat Night and Nature Detectives!<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Dunbar-Cave-State-Park-Visitors-Center.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-179500\" title=\"The Dunbar Cave State Natural Area's Visitors Center\" alt=\"The Dunbar Cave State Natural Area's Visitors Center\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Dunbar-Cave-State-Park-Visitors-Center-480x320.jpg\" width=\"480\" height=\"320\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Programs are free unless noted otherwise. All programs require reservations by the deadline listed. Programs with no reservations by the deadline are canceled.<\/p>\n<p>All programs begin at the Visitor Center unless another site is listed.<\/p>\n<p>Children must be accompanied by an adult (one adult for each three children). The age limits are definite \u2013 please do not sign up a child who is too young or too old for the program. Call 931.648.5526 for reservations.<\/p>\n<h3>Monday, August 5th<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Wildflower Walk<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Time:<\/strong> 8:00am\u20139:30am<br \/>\n<strong>Ages:<\/strong> 10-Adult<\/p>\n<p>Learn the names and lore of the flowers on this hike to the cave and along the lake.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reservations By:<\/strong> 4:30pm August 4th.<br \/>\n<strong>Program Leader:<\/strong> Amy Wallace, Interpretive Specialist<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Fish, Insects and Freshwater Mussels of the Red River<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Time:<\/strong> 3:00pm\u20134:30pm<br \/>\n<strong>Ages:<\/strong> All ages<\/p>\n<p>Join us at Port Royal State Park near Adams, TN and see fish, mussels and insects that you may have never seen before. Meet at Port Royal State Park\u2019s riverside parking lot.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reservations By:<\/strong> 4:30pm August 4th.<br \/>\n<strong>Program Leader:<\/strong> Shawn Settle, Seasonal Interpretive Ranger<\/p>\n<h3>Tuesday, August 6th<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Fishing Equipment and Techniques<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Time:<\/strong> 12:30pm\u20131:30pm<br \/>\n<strong>Ages:<\/strong> All Ages<\/p>\n<p>Please meet me at the visitor\u2019s center a 12:00 or join us at Swan Lake beside the visitor\u2019s center as I bring out different equipment and discuss the different techniques of fishing in Middle Tennessee.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reservations By:<\/strong> 4:30pm August 5th.<br \/>\n<strong>Program Leader:<\/strong> Shawn Settle, Seasonal Interpretive Ranger<\/p>\n<h3>Wednesday, August 7th<\/h3>\n<p><strong>History of Port Royal<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Time:<\/strong> 3:00pm\u20134:30pm<br \/>\n<strong>Ages:<\/strong> 4 and Up<\/p>\n<p>We will make our way down the Trail of Tears as we talk about the park and its history. Meet at Port Royal in the upper parking lot next to the old building.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reservations By:<\/strong> 4:30pm August 5th.<br \/>\n<strong>Program Leader:<\/strong> Shawn Settle, Seasonal Interpretive Ranger<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Evening Trail Hike<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Time:<\/strong> 6:30pm-7:30pm<br \/>\n<strong>Ages:<\/strong> All ages<\/p>\n<p>This time of day is great for seeing wildlife such as deer, owls and bats. Come walk the 2 mile trail and beat the heat.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reservations By:<\/strong> 4:30pm August 6th.<br \/>\n<strong>Program Leader:<\/strong> Adam Neblett, Park Ranger<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>APSU Bat Night<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Time:<\/strong> 7:00pm\u20138:30pm<br \/>\n<strong>Ages:<\/strong> All Ages<\/p>\n<p>How well do you know your bats??? Have you heard they carry rabies, get caught in your hair and so on?
