\"Dunbar<\/a>Clarksville, TN<\/strong> – If you have visited Dunbar Cave State Park lately, you will have noticed that the back plaza area has been dug up and is mainly a pile of dirt. This area is being prepared for a Butterfly Garden.<\/p>\n

When Dunbar Cave was bought in 1973 and turned into a state park, the area in front of the bath house of the visitor center was a swimming pool. However, the pool was in such disarray that is was not economical to fix it. So the state decided to fill it in with dirt.<\/p>\n

Dunbar Cave State Park prepares plaza area for new Butterfly Garden.<\/p><\/div>\n

Until recently, it had been a plaza area mainly used by the geese that migrate through.<\/p>\n

A plan came together about 3 years ago to build a Butterfly Garden out there. So this year, the park began work on the garden. The dirt work was started this summer. There is more dirt work to be done.<\/p>\n

“There are terraces that have to be put in. We have a mud garden that has to go in the center, because butterflies really like mud,” stated Seasonal Interpretive Ranger Shawn Settle.<\/p>\n

“The planting will take place this fall. We will have trees to be planted and flower blubs,” said Settle. “By this spring, it will be our full fledged Butterfly Garden.”<\/p>\n
