The abstract landscapes of Shaw\u2019s work create a delightful, albeit eerie, sense of calm. Lone figures hide within the movements of color.<\/p>\n

The Mother Archetype by Diane Shaw<\/p><\/div>\n

Shaw says of her series \u201cAt this point on my journey as an artist, the content of my work has turned to the psychology of universal archetypes. As diverse as stars in the heavens, archetypes are derived from personal behavioral patterns. ”<\/p>\n

“Each of us incarnate with a selected group of these patterns that remain with us throughout our lives. Exploring my own archetypes has made me aware that they are not simple and passive parts of our psyches,” stated Shaw. ” They take active roles as guardians and inner allies, awakening us when we are in danger of personal destruction. Each has its own light and shadow attributes that have the potential to teach us things about ourselves, both constructive and deconstructive.\u201d<\/p>\n

Diane is the Assistant Professor of Visual Art and Theatre Arts at the University of Tennessee, in Martin, Tennessee. She received her MFA in painting and modern and contemporary art history from the University of Memphis. Diane works mostly in acrylics in an abstract and expressive style, and has exhibited her work throughout the South. She also conducts creative workshops and lectures on visual art. Archetypes will be on exhibit through June 25th.<\/p>\n

Other gallery spaces feature Mike Andrews: Carvings, Castings, and Constructions and The A-Mazing Maze. The Customs House Museum will be presenting a painting demonstration on June 19th by regional artist Gwendolyn Rodriguez as its monthly Art & Lunch program. This event is free to the public and bagged lunches are encouraged. Gwendolyn will begin her demonstration at 12:15pm.<\/p>\n

Located in the heart of historic downtown Clarksville, Tennessee, the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center is the State\u2019s second largest general museum. Regular museum hours are 10:00am to 5:00pm Tuesday through Saturday, and 1:00pm to 5:00pm on Sundays. Adult admission is $7.00, Sr. Citizens and College ID $5.00, Ages 6 to 18 $3.00, and under six years and Museum members are free.<\/p>\n
