Frye Gaillard, writer-in-residence at the University of South Alabama, will serve as the event\u2019s keynote speaker<\/p>\n<p>Gaillard has written extensively on Southern race relations, politics and culture as the author or editor of more than 20 books, including \u201cCradle of Freedom: Alabama and the Movement that Changed America.\u201d He will speak during the Thursday evening banquet at Freedom Point at Liberty Park, overlooking the Cumberland River and historic downtown Clarksville.<\/p>\n<p>The conference will also feature several distinguished southern writers, such as best-selling author and Nashville resident Adam Ross and three members of the \u201cGrit Lit\u201d southern literary movement \u2013 Tom Franklin, Dale Ray Phillips and George Singleton.<\/p>\n<h3>Authors scheduled to speak this year include<\/h3>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Janine Boldrin<\/strong>, freelance journalist for Military Spouse magazine and author of e-book \u201cThe Thinking Spouse&#8217;s Guide to Military Life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Beth Ann Fennelly<\/strong>, award-winning poet of the collections \u201cUnmentionables,\u201d \u201cOpen House\u201d and \u201cTender Hooks\u201d and co-author of forthcoming novel \u201cThe Tilted World.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Tom Franklin<\/strong>, New York Times best-selling author of \u201cCrooked Letter, Crooked Letter,\u201d co-editor of anthology \u201cGrit Lit: A Rough South Reader,\u201d and co-author of forthcoming novel \u201cThe Tilted World.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Rheta Grimsley Johnson<\/strong>, journalist, syndicated columnist and author of the memoirs \u201cHank Hung the Moon\u201d and \u201cEnchanted Evening Barbie and the Second Coming.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Dale Ray Phillips<\/strong>, short story writer and author of the Pulitzer Prize-nominated collection \u201cMy People&#8217;s Waltz.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Adam Ross<\/strong>, author of 2010 New York Times Notable Book \u201cMr. Peanut\u201d and the short story collection \u201cLadies and Gentlemen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Chuck Sambuchino<\/strong>, editor of \u201cWriter&#8217;s Digest&#8217;s Guide to Literary Agents\u201d and author of \u201cFormatting &amp; Submitting Your Manuscript\u201d and \u201cCreate Your Writer Platform.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Ann Shayne<\/strong>, former editor of book review BookPage and author of novel \u201cBowling Avenue\u201d and \u201cMason-Dixon Kitting: The Curious Knitter&#8217;s Guide.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>George Singleton<\/strong>, author of often humorous short story collections and novels, including \u201cStray Decorum,\u201d \u201cWork Shirts for Madmen\u201d and \u201cPep Talks, Warnings, And Screeds: Indispensable Wisdom And Cautionary Advice For Writers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the scheduled presentations and workshops, free manuscript consultations with two literary agents will be available to conference participants.<\/p>\n<p>A complete package, including all conference activities, is offered, as well as \u201ca la carte\u201d options. Discounted rates are available for early registration, which is postmarked on or before May 23rd.
