The company is ISO 14001 Certified which is a coveted international certification meaning that it has met the criteria for environmental management systems.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_173957\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Akebono.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-173957\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-173957 \" title=\"Akebono Green Certification Ribbon Cutting.\" alt=\"Akebono Green Certification Ribbon Cutting.\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Akebono-480x319.jpg\" width=\"480\" height=\"319\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-173957\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Akebono Green Certification Ribbon Cutting.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!--more-->Carolyn Bowers, Montgomery County Mayor and Kim McMillan, City of Clarksville Mayor along with Melinda Shepard, Vice President of Clarksville Area Chamber of Commerce were all on hand to congratulate the company.<\/p>\n<p>When asked by Bowers about the types of things they\u2019ve done, plant manager Tammy Francesckina asked their environmental engineer, Zach Keeton, to provide a comprehensive response, as he was instrumental in leading the initiative for the facility. Keeton discussed the increased recycling initiatives they incorporated in the office as well as their new relationship with Bi-County Solid Waste Management.<\/p>\n<p>Some additional initiatives include: installing a battery operated solar system in the open outdoor warehouse, the baling of cardboard and plastic, installation of an Ultra Filter to reduce off-site disposal of waste from mop water and encouraging employees to conserve their resources at home.<\/p>\n<p>Bowers explained to the group that Bi-County Landfill has to prove every year that less waste is going into the landfill. She added that in a growing community that was a challenge but because of businesses like Akebono they have been able to meet these standards and she thanked them for their work.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor McMillan also thanked Akebono for setting a good example in the community.<\/p>\n<p>Akebono Brake Corporation is a subsidiary of Tokyo, Japan-based Akebono Brake Industry Co., Ltd., a global provider of advanced noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) and braking solutions to the world\u2019s automotive industry.
