(Photo by Beth Liggett, APSU photographer)<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!--more-->\u201cBy increasing the number of external grants, APSU will have more money to operate and reward faculty who continue engagement in scholarly activity,\u201d said Dr. Dixie Dennis, associate provost of Grants and Sponsored Programs. \u201cSpecific to the teaching focus at APSU, results from research studies indicate that faculty who engage in research and creative activities are better teachers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Also hoped through the SRFP is that some of these faculty research and creative activity projects will involve undergraduate and graduate students.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe benefit of more faculty being engaged in research attracts faculty to APSU who also enjoy being engaged in research,\u201d Dennis said.<\/p>\n<p>The names of the awardees were announced during a congratulatory dinner April 3rd.<\/p>\n<h4>Faculty members selected as SRFP participants and the titles of their research are the following:<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Carrie Brennan<\/strong>, College of Science and Mathematics, Department of Chemistry, \u201cSynthesis and Characterization of low Tg tin Fluorophosphate Glass\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Chad Brooks<\/strong>, College of Science and Mathematics, Department of Biology, \u201cLyme Disease Vaccine Discovery for Dogs\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Susan Bryant<\/strong>, College of Arts and Letters, Department of Art, \u201cPhoto Alchemy: Continued Exploration of the Collodion Wet-Plate Process in the Digital Age\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mark DeYoung<\/strong>, College of Arts and Letters, Department of Art, \u201cElectron Cultural Foundation Participatory Design\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Osvaldo Di Paolo<\/strong>, College of Arts and Letters, Department of Languages and Literature, \u201cThe Beast Novel and Negrotico: Metamorphosis of Hardboiled\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kallina Dunkle<\/strong>, College of Science and Mathematics, Department of Geosciences, \u201cPreferential Flow Paths in Complex Hydrogeologic Settings\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dwayne Estes<\/strong>, College of Science and Mathematics, Department of Biology, \u201cDo the Leafcups (Polymnia: Asteraceae) Harbor Hidden Species?
