{"id":14023,"date":"2013-02-14T16:00:07","date_gmt":"2013-02-14T22:00:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.discoverclarksville.com\/articles\/?p=14023"},"modified":"2013-02-14T03:18:38","modified_gmt":"2013-02-14T09:18:38","slug":"local-schools-compete-in-8th-annual-black-history-bowl-at-austin-peay-state-university","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.discoverclarksville.com\/articles\/2013\/02\/14\/local-schools-compete-in-8th-annual-black-history-bowl-at-austin-peay-state-university\/","title":{"rendered":"Local schools compete in 8th Annual Black History Bowl at Austin Peay State University"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-47306\" alt=\"Austin Peay State University\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/apsu-logo-200x123.jpg\" width=\"200\" height=\"123\" \/><strong>Clarksville, TN<\/strong> &#8211; Earlier this month, dozens of middle and high school students stopped by the Austin Peay State University campus to participate in the Eighth Annual Black History Bowl.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had a good attendance with three middle school teams competing against each other and three high school teams competing against each other,\u201d Dr. Barbara Peterson, APSU associate professor of education, said. \u201cThere was a heightened level of excitement and anticipation for this year\u2019s event.\u201d<!--more-->The APSU Student Tennessee Education Association (STEA) hosted the scholastic event, which had teams facing off in a \u201cJeopardy\u201d-style competition. Players from each school were required to answer questions on several different topics pertaining to black history.<\/p>\n<h4>The participating schools, and how they placed in the event, include<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Northwest High School<\/strong> \u2013 first place<\/li>\n<li><strong>Kenwood High School<\/strong> \u2013 second place<\/li>\n<li><strong>Clarksville High School<\/strong> \u2013 third place<\/li>\n<li><strong>Rossview Middle School<\/strong> \u2013 first place (middle school competition)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Northeast Middle School<\/strong> \u2013 second place<\/li>\n<li><strong>New Providence Middle School<\/strong> \u2013 third place<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The STEA club partnered with APSU\u2019s Wilbur N. Daniel African American Cultural Center, the APSU ROTC program and the College of Education\u2019s Project MORE Scholars to host the event.
