Volunteer mentors are needed for the upcoming Dream Chasers Group Mentoring Program. Mentors will be working with at-risk youth, ages 13-17 in a small group atmosphere. Small group leaders, guided by professionals, will mentor youth as they discuss dealing with negative influences that affect teens and will promote making healthy and informed decisions.<\/p>\n<p>Mentors must be at least 18-years-old. The program accepts both male and female mentors but is in need of more male mentors. The Dream Chasers program will meet Tuesdays from 4:00pm until 5:30pm at the Burt-Cobb Community Center, beginning January 22nd, 2013.<\/p>\n<p>If interested, please contact Joseph Bailey by phone at 931.645.7476 or by e-mail, <a href=\"mailto:joseph.bailey@cityofclarksville.com\">joseph.bailey@cityofclarksville.com<\/a>. Mentor spots are limited.<\/p>\n<h3>*NEW* Cumberland Arts Experience<\/h3>\n<p>The Kleeman Community Center is excited to offer a new program, the Cumberland Arts Experience, beginning Saturday, January 26th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. This program will teach basic painting skills as participants paint along with an instructor to create a piece of art they can take home with them.<\/p>\n<p>Classes are held monthly from 6:00pm to 8:00pm and feature a different painting, all inspired by things and places in the Cumberland region. January\u2019s painting will be \u201cDawn at the Greenway\u201d. Cost is $35.00 per class and includes paint &amp; canvas.<\/p>\n<p>The Cumberland Arts Experience is much more than a painting class, but an entire night of fun as participants will be treated to light music, \u201cmocktails\u201d and food tastings from local chef Kristina Waters.<\/p>\n<p>Pre-registration is required and available online at recpro.cityofclarksville.com. If you can\u2019t make the January class, the next two classes will take place Saturday, February 23rd and Saturday, March 23rd.<\/p>\n<h3>Indoor Aquatic Center to host event just for toddlers<\/h3>\n<p>The Indoor Aquatic Center, located at 166 Cunningham Lane, is excited to host the first-ever Toddler Splash on February 6th. Kids, ages 1 to 5-years-old, can enjoy fun such as a water parade, penny hunt, water games, crafts and even a \u201cfishing pond.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The event is open to children ages 1-5 from 10:00am to 2;00pm. Cost to attend is $3.00 per person, including adults. A parent or adult guardian must accompany toddlers in the water.<\/p>\n<p>Pre-registration is available at recpro.cityofclarksville.com and is strongly encouraged.<\/p>\n<h3>Surrender of Clarksville<\/h3>\n<p>The Fort Defiance Interpretive Center, located at 120 Duncan Street, will host a living history weekend to commemorate the 151st anniversary of the Surrender of Clarksville, Saturday, February 16th from 10:00am to 4:00pm and Sunday, February 17th from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.<\/p>\n<p>Come see uniformed Civil War re-enactors from the 50th Tennessee Reenactment Group who will provide living history and musket firing demonstrations. Musket firing demonstrations will take place at 11:00am and 2:00pm on Saturday, and 1:00pm and 3:00pm on Sunday. Visitors can also tour the permanent exhibit which includes the 18-minute film, \u201cCrossroads of Change 1861-1865\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>This two-day event is free and open to the public.
