Over the years the two have worked together on many projects including two of Alford’s original works, Smoke: A Ballad of the Night Riders and Spirit: The Authentic Story of the Bell Witch.

“When you have worked with someone as long as Paul and I have worked together, you get to a point in performance that you know what the other person is going to do even if you spontaneously decide to go in a new direction. It’s a comfortable feeling, a sense of cooperation. It makes the piece better because of the knowledge that comes from years of experience,” Alford states.

The exciting performances that they continue to produce are based on a simple formula: do work you love and surround yourself with people you love to work with. Christmas Down Home still uses their much-acclaimed performance of “A Christmas Memory” as the centerpiece.

Alford, Binkley, and a small group of Nashville’s finest actors and musicians take their turns in the spotlight telling other Christmas stories and singing traditional Holiday tunes. Acoustic bluegrass-style renditions of “Go Tell It On The Mountain,” “Children Go Where I Send Thee,” and “Sweet Little Jesus Boy” round out the evening along with pieces by writers as diverse as Ogden Nash and T.R. Pearson, including the popular story about a Christmas pageant performed by Robertson County native, Erin Ramsey.

[320left]With warm humor and fond emotion, Christmas Down Home transports audiences to small-town Christmases of years past, when Holidays were less about things and more about people: neighbors, friends, and family.

Last year their performances solicited reviews stating “(The performance) in more ways than one marks the return of a friend one has longed to see…What a beautiful present they all give us.” (artNOWnashville) and “Good tidings and the lively arts come together beautifully in Christmas Down Home….and it’s unquestionably worth the trip.” (The Nashville Scene)

Christmas Down Home will be presented Monday, December 17th, 7:30pm at APSU’s George and Sharon Mabry Concert Hall.
