{"id":13255,"date":"2012-11-27T16:00:12","date_gmt":"2012-11-27T22:00:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.discoverclarksville.com\/articles\/?p=13255"},"modified":"2012-11-27T03:49:11","modified_gmt":"2012-11-27T09:49:11","slug":"apsu-hosting-8th-annual-black-history-bowl-on-january-25th","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.discoverclarksville.com\/articles\/2012\/11\/27\/apsu-hosting-8th-annual-black-history-bowl-on-january-25th\/","title":{"rendered":"APSU hosting 8th annual Black History Bowl on January 25th"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-47306\" title=\"Austin Peay State University\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/apsu-logo-200x123.jpg\" alt=\"Austin Peay State University\" width=\"200\" height=\"123\" \/><strong>Clarksville, TN<\/strong> &#8211; February is still a few months away, but area middle and high school students are already studying and preparing themselves for Black History Month.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s because on January 25th, Austin Peay State University\u2019s Student Tennessee Education Association (STEA) club will host its Eighth Annual Black History Bowl \u2013 a scholastic competition open to teams from local schools.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/8th-annual-Black-History-Bowl.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-153645\" title=\"APSU hosting 8th annual Black History Bowl on January 25th\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/8th-annual-Black-History-Bowl-480x319.jpg\" alt=\"APSU hosting 8th annual Black History Bowl on January 25th\" width=\"480\" height=\"319\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><!--more-->\u201cIt\u2019s on January 25th, so it\u2019s right at the kickoff of Black History Month,\u201d Dr. Barbara Peterson, associate professor of education and STEA faculty sponsor, said. \u201cThe purpose of the bowl is to build a sense of collegiality among students. It gives them an opportunity to have a high command of knowledge and to apply that knowledge.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The STEA club is partnering with APSU\u2019s Wilbur N. Daniel African American Cultural Center, the APSU ROTC program and the College of Education\u2019s Project MORE Scholars to host the event, and NewsChannel5 reporter Marcus Washington is scheduled to serve as the event\u2019s emcee.<\/p>\n<p>The competition begins at 5:00pm on January 25th in the APSU Music\/Mass Communication Building\u2019s Mabry Concert Hall.
