(Photo by Jennifer Oliphant, APSU Public Relations and Marketing)<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!--more-->Students in the class, taught by Lynette Taylor who oversees the University\u2019s disability services office, decided to pursue a service-learning project and researched a number of possibilities before deciding to help the CLC.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey voted on it after spending time discussing other possible projects,\u201d said Taylor, adding that the class held a penny drive in October to raise funds for the CLC.<\/p>\n<p>Connie Sanders, director of the Child Learning Center, said the students\u2019 efforts will help to make the playground improvements become a reality.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe held a book fair in September, and that helped, but we would still be working on this project if it weren\u2019t for these students,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Austin Peay State University Clarksville, TN &#8211; When freshmen and new students begin their academic careers at Austin Peay State University, they take a course known as APSU 1000 to learn more about the University, their majors and resources on campus.
