\"CityClarksville, TN<\/strong> – Veterans Day is a time to reflect, honor and remember. All across the United States, communities are coming together today to remember the men and women who have so courageously protected and defended our nation.<\/p>\n

This is a day to show our appreciation for all they have given and continue to give.It is also a day to recommit ourselves to giving back to our military, our veterans and active duty service members.
\nClarksville is a special community because we know that our military members rely on us as we rely on them.<\/p>\n

Over the past decade, our military has faced new challenges. They\u2019ve fought wars in elements they didn\u2019t anticipate, against enemies they couldn\u2019t\u2019 always see. It\u2019s easy to forget that the same economic pressures we\u2019ve faced at home affected them, too, even while they were on the battlefield. The emotional toll must seem overwhelming at times; their worry intense. I am humbled and proud to assure them that their families are a vital party of our community and we will do what we can to support them.<\/p>\n

Much of the care, it seems, falls to those who understand the circumstances best: those who have been there. A wonderful example is Soldiers and Families Embraced (SAFE) a local organization that provides off-post counseling for soldiers and family members, including children, suffering from the effects of post-traumatic stress and the aftershocks of soldier suicides.<\/p>\n

The group, made up of clergy, social workers, interns and veterans, understand the pressures and challenges of being a soldier. The group provides hope and healing to children, active military and veterans who are suffering from a host of illnesses, including PTSD, and families of deploying soldiers. This is a perfect example of people in our community realizing that others are hurting and finding a way to help.<\/p>\n

Clarksville is the fifth largest city in the State of Tennessee. When times are tough and people need care, it is more like the smallest town imaginable because we rally together like few places can. Today, on Veterans Day, thank our service members and their families for all they do and remind them, honor them, by letting them know they always have a place to call home in Clarksville.<\/p>\n

And to all of the Veterans in our community and around the world, please accept my heartfelt thanks from a very grateful city. We will never forget your courage, dedication and commitment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
