Clarksville, TN<\/strong> – At 7:00pm on November 28th, a group of Austin Peay State University students will showcase their creative writing skills as dramatists with the inaugural Playfest event at the Roxy Regional Theater.<\/p>\nThe evening will feature eight plays, around 10 minutes each, by student members of the APSU Creative Writing Club (CWC).<\/p>\n
\u201cThe plays are novice in nature, but I think that\u2019s quite refreshing,\u201d club member Renee Ramsey said. \u201cThere\u2019s a certain beauty that comes with the amateur level, and we guarantee you\u2019ll see something you\u2019ve never seen before.\u201dThe CWC is using the event to both give its members an outlet for their work and to raise money for future activities. APSU students organized the club two years ago to provide the campus\u2019 creative individuals, regardless of their major, with an opportunity to workshop their writing. Ramsey said they want to raise money to expand the club\u2019s offerings.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe talked about doing a literary road trip, but we have to have money to do that,\u201d she said. \u201cWe want to build up funds.\u201d<\/p>\n
Most of the club members are fiction writers and poets, but they decided to break out of their comfort zones for this fundraiser. The students wrote and submitted short plays, and the club members picked only those that could be performed informally as a reader\u2019s theater.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re acting in each other\u2019s plays, and we\u2019ll have our scripts in front of us,\u201d Ramsey said. \u201cWe\u2019re focusing on dialogue and writing rather than props and stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n
Tickets are only $5.00, and they can be purchased November 19th, November 26th and November 27th in the APSU Morgan University Center lobby.<\/p>\n
