Come explore an entire city block featuring large gallery spaces filled with fine art, science and history.<\/p>\n<p>In the month of October, the Museum will feature Impressions of Reality: The Passion of Kitty Harvill, Veteran&#8217;s Day Celebration, Let\u2019s Find: Fish, The Museum Store Holiday Open House and so much more.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h3>Exhibits<\/h3>\n<p><strong>The Passion of Kitty Harvill<\/strong><br \/>\nClarksville artist Kitty Harvill paints watercolors of exotic birds. Having dual residency in both the states and Brazil, Harvill divides her time between the two countries, currently specializing in wildlife art and specifically endangered species. See her art through January 14th.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Denton Ridge: Mountains to Coasts<\/strong><br \/>\nA variety of landscapes are depicted in this watercolor exhibit by artist Denton Ridge. Through January 7th.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Main Street: A Vintage Holiday<\/strong><br \/>\nItems from the Museum&#8217;s collection are set as vintage storefronts for the holiday season. Through January 14th.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Beyond the Abyss: Phil Crouch and the Bathysphere Adventure<\/strong><br \/>\nSee photographs, drawings, models, and documents relating to the historic bathysphere, a spherical device used by divers to study marine life in the 1930s. Opens November 15th.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Civil Conundrum<\/strong><br \/>\nRobert McCurley&#8217;s photographs represent the sadness, loneliness and death associated with the events of the Civil War. The poems that Civil Conundrum inspired will also be on display. Through January 28th.<\/p>\n<h3>Activities<\/h3>\n<h4>Veteran&#8217;s Day Celebration<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Saturday, November 10th, 11:30am<\/strong><br \/>\nCelebrate Veteran&#8217;s Day with us on November 10th! Hotdogs and cokes will be served in the Cafe from 11:30am-12:30pm. Starting at 1:00pm, there will be a Flag Raising Ceremony by the Marine Color Guard, followed by a Patriotic Tribute by the Austin Peay State University Music Department. Guest speaker Dr. Dewey Browder will be present, along with local veterans Mac Ernst and Leroy Mack. A coffee social hour is at the end of the day. This event is free and open to the public and is sponsored by the Customs House Museum and Kiwanis Service and Sacrifice Committee.<\/p>\n<h4>In Honor of all Veterans<\/h4>\n<p>In appreciation of their service to our country, all active duty military and all veterans, as well as their families, will be admitted free of charge on Veterans Day, November 11th, 2012.<\/p>\n<h4>Let\u2019s Find: Fish<\/h4>\n<p><strong>November 14th &amp; 15th, 10:30 \u2013 11:30am<\/strong><br \/>\nChildren 3 \u2013 5 years old and their grown-ups are invited to explore the museum from a child\u2019s perspective. This month we are diving into the ocean to see some unusual fish that live there. Bring your camera and have your picture taken in front of our model of the Bathysphere that made its historic dive on August 15th, 1934 with William Beebe and Otis Barton on board. We will also read a story and make a craft. This activity is free to museum members. Non-members pay the regular adult admission of $7.00, plus $1.00 per child. Siblings are always welcome.<\/p>\n<h4>Seasons: The Museum Store Holiday Open House<\/h4>\n<p><strong>November 16th &amp; 17th, 10:00am-6:00pm, and November 18th, 1:00pm-6:00pm<\/strong><br \/>\nSeasons: The Museum Store will be celebrating the holidays with an Open House Event. There will be prize drawings, free gift wrapping, and specials throughout the store! Check the Seasons Facebook page for updates and specials.<\/p>\n<h4>Model Trains to Run<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Friday, November 23rd, 10:00am-4:00pm<\/strong><br \/>\nGather up your friends and family the day after Thanksgiving and bring them to the museum to explore our new exhibits and watch the model trains that will be running from 10:00am to 4:00pm.<\/p>\n<h4>Kitty Harvill: Lecture and Book Signing Event<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Tuesday, November 27th, 7:00pm-8:30pm<\/strong><br \/>\nHarvill is actively involved with conservation efforts in her home in southern Brazil. Such organizations include SPVS (Society for Wildlife Research and Environmental Education) where she is active in the Red-tailed parrot project, having participated in this year&#8217;s census count, donating her artwork for t-shirts, and presently working with Brazilian author Ad\u00e9lia Woellner on a children&#8217;s picture book about the parrot. Harvill has been commissioned by the Brazilian Ministry of the Environment &#8211; ICMBio to create the cover paintings for their National Action Plans for the conservation of endangered species. She has completed 7 covers to date.<\/p>\n<p>The Museum will be closed Monday, November 12th for Veteran&#8217;s Day and Thursday, November 22nd for Thanksgiving Day.<\/p>\n<h3>About the Customs House Museum<\/h3>\n<p>Located in the heart of historic downtown Clarksville, Tennessee, the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center is the State\u2019s second largest general museum. With over 35,000 square feet of the region\u2019s best hands-on activities and special events\u2026people of all ages agree \u2013 the Customs House Museum is well worth the stop!<\/p>\n<p>The Explorer\u2019s Gallery is packed with fun, learning and fantasy in Aunt Alice\u2019s Attic, McGregor\u2019s Market and kitchen, and of course \u2013 the Bubble Cave! Finally, get \u201call aboard\u201d to see our fantastic model trains. Our volunteer engineers \u201cride the rails\u201d every Sunday afternoon from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.<\/p>\n<p>Regular museum hours are 10:00am to 5:00pm Tuesday through Saturday, and 1:00pm to 5:00pm on Sundays.
