\"TheClarksville, TN<\/strong> – The Brentano String Quartet, one of the world\u2019s pre-eminent chamber music ensembles, will visit Austin Peay State University at 7:30pm on October 19th for a special performance in the Music\/Mass Communication Building Concert Hall.<\/p>\n

The event is hosted by the Clarksville Community Concert Association, which works to bring world-class and engaging artists of the highest quality to the local community.<\/p>\n

Brentano String Quartet<\/p><\/div>\n

Since its inception in 1992, the Brentano String Quartet has appeared throughout the world in major venues to popular and critical acclaim. The London Independent called the ensemble \u201cpassionate, uninhibited and spellbinding,\u201d and The Philadelphia Inquirer praised their \u201cluxuriously warm sound.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shortly after its formation, the Quartet garnered the first Cleveland Quartet Award and the Naumburg Chamber Music Award, and in 1996 the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center invited them to be the inaugural members of Chamber Music Society Two, a program that is now a coveted distinction for chamber groups and individuals.<\/p>\n

The Brentano String Quartet concert will also coincide with the Austin Peay State University Honors Orchestra Festival, to be held October 19th and 20th.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am so excited to have the world-class Brentano Quartet as part of the Honor Orchestra Festival,\u201d Dr. Emily Hanna Crane, APSU assistant professor of music and festival coordinator, said. \u201cNot only will the students get to attend the concert on Friday night, thanks to the CCCA, but the quartet will offer for the Honor Orchestra students a clinic that promises to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for many of them.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Brentano Quartet concert will include music of Henry Purcell, B\u00e9a Bart\u00f3k and Ludwig van Beethoven. A selection of Purcell\u2019s \u201cFantasias\u201d will be followed by Bela Bartok\u2019s Quartet No. 4, which is based on folk tunes.<\/p>\n

The concert will end with Beethoven\u2019s superb String Quartet in B flat major, Op. 130.<\/p>\n

Dr. Ann Silverberg, APSU professor of music and CCCA vice president, heard the Brentano Quartet in Massachusetts last year and said she is \u201cthrilled\u201d to hear them again.<\/p>\n
