{"id":12683,"date":"2012-10-02T18:00:38","date_gmt":"2012-10-02T23:00:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.discoverclarksville.com\/articles\/?p=12683"},"modified":"2012-10-02T02:46:32","modified_gmt":"2012-10-02T07:46:32","slug":"apsu-students-curate-exhibit-of-cindy-marsh-work","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.discoverclarksville.com\/articles\/2012\/10\/02\/apsu-students-curate-exhibit-of-cindy-marsh-work\/","title":{"rendered":"APSU students curate exhibit of Cindy Marsh work"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-47306\" title=\"Austin Peay State University\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/apsu-logo-200x123.jpg\" alt=\"Austin Peay State University\" width=\"200\" height=\"123\" \/><strong>Clarksville, TN<\/strong> &#8211; During Cynthia Marsh\u2019s long and distinguished art career, she has designed and developed album covers for the Supremes and Elvis, traveled to Africa to study different techniques in papermaking and helped hundreds of Tennesseans express themselves with the help of an old letterpress.<\/p>\n<p>On October 4th, a new exhibition of the Austin Peay State University professor of art\u2019s work will open in the APSU Morgan University Center Gallery.<!--more-->The show, \u201cCynthia Marsh: Artist, Teacher, Community Advocate,\u201d will begin with a reception at 4:00pm that afternoon and run through October 28th. The show is curated by APSU students Barbra Isham, Lisa Weber, Katelan Shartzer and Alex Poppendorf.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibit will present Marsh\u2019s historical and contemporary works. A variety of mediums will be displayed characterizing her artistry as well as her collaborative communications through the University\u2019s Goldsmith Press and Rare Type Collection.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI consider myself a journalist \u2013 a note taker,\u201d Marsh said. \u201cI record the visual noise of my surroundings. By juxtaposing images and text (that often seem unrelated), I can open a discussion about contemporary values.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During Marsh\u2019s career, she has taught extensively at institutions such as the Woman\u2019s Building in Los Angeles, California State University of Northridge and the American Institute of Graphic Design. She has been with APSU for 15 years, eight of which were spent as chairman of the Art Department.<\/p>\n<p>In 2009, she received the Clarksville Chamber of Commerce \u2013 APSU Faculty Community Service Award.
