\"TheClarksville, TN<\/strong> – The Customs House Museum and Cultural Center is located in historic downtown Clarksville, Tennessee. Come explore an entire city block featuring large gallery spaces filled with fine art, science and history.<\/p>\n

In the month of October, the Museum will feature Impressions of Reality: The Art of Camille Engel, George McGlothin as Clay Faulkner, Sunday Family Fun: Meet the Mannequins, Art & Lunch: Whistler and so much more.<\/p>\n

Exhibits<\/h3>\n

The Amazing Maze<\/strong>
\nThe Amazing Maze is back! The life-size maze has a Civil War theme to go along with our Civil War Remedies exhibit and other Civil War stories in the Kimbrough Gallery. See it through October 15th.<\/p>\n

Inspirations and Origins<\/strong>
\nThis juried exhibition of work from the Cumberland Furniture Guild features hand-crafted furniture in both traditional and whimsical styles. Through October 28th.<\/p>\n

Subtle Manipulations: The Vision of Greg Sand<\/strong>
\nGreg’s work explores the issues of existence, time, and death. His digital photography addresses the nature of the medium and its role in defining reality. An Austin Peay graduate, Sand has been called one of “the most exciting new artists emerging in the world of photography.” Through the month of October.<\/p>\n

Impressions of Reality: The Art of Camille Engel<\/strong>
\nAn American contemporary realist oil painter, Camille is internationally acclaimed and known for her use of rich colors, textures, and intricate detail. Primarily a still life artist, Engel paints abstract views of realism. Her work is published in national magazines like American Art Collector, The American Artist, and Southern Living, and also hangs in corporate, public and private collections such as the renowned Children\u2019s Hospital at Vanderbilt, Nashville, TN. See her art through November 4th.<\/p>\n

Activities<\/h3>\n

George McGlothin as Clay Faulkner<\/h4>\n

Friday, October 5th, 6:00pm in the Turner Auditorium<\/strong>
\nTake a look back into 1863 through the eyes of a Civil War soldier. Historian George McGlothin will assume the persona of Clay Faulkner in 1910 as he looks back on his decisions as an 18-year-old enlistee. McGlothin’s performance is based on actual 1863 events in McMinnville, Tennessee. This event is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s Find: Benches and Chairs<\/h4>\n

October 10th & 11th, 10:30am\u201311:30am<\/strong>
\nChildren 3 \u2013 5 years old and their grown-ups are invited to explore the museum from a child\u2019s perspective. This month we will be looking for unusual benches and chairs in Inspirations & Origins, an exhibit by the Cumberland Furniture Guild. We will also read a story and make a craft. This activity is free to museum members. Non-members pay the regular adult admission of $7.00, plus $1.00 per child. Siblings are welcome.<\/p>\n

Sunday Family Fun: Meet the Mannequins<\/h4>\n

Sunday October 28th, 1:00pm\u20135:00pm<\/strong>
\nDressing up for Halloween is fun! Come see how some of the museum\u2019s residents are \u201cdressed up\u201d all the time! Be sure to stop in the Coca Cola Caf\u00e9 for some fun, and funny, Halloween crafts before you leave. Costumes are invited, but not required. This drop-in activity is free with your paid admission or museum membership.<\/p>\n

Art & Lunch: Whistler<\/h4>\n

Thursday, October 18th, 12:05pm<\/strong>
\nRenowned for his witty banter, the work of American artist James Abbott McNeill Whistler led many critics to believe him to be the forerunner of abstract art. His nocturnal scenes and highly stylized portraits secured his reputation. Free admission (to film only). In conjunction with Impressions of Reality.<\/p>\n

The Museum will be closed Monday, October 8th in observance of Columbus Day.<\/p>\n

About the Customs House Museum<\/h3>\n

Located in the heart of historic downtown Clarksville, Tennessee, the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center is the State\u2019s second largest general museum. With over 35,000 square feet of the region\u2019s best hands-on activities and special events\u2026people of all ages agree \u2013 the Customs House Museum is well worth the stop!<\/p>\n

The Explorer\u2019s Gallery is packed with fun, learning and fantasy in Aunt Alice\u2019s Attic, McGregor\u2019s Market and kitchen, and of course \u2013 the Bubble Cave! Finally, get \u201call aboard\u201d to see our fantastic model trains. Our volunteer engineers \u201cride the rails\u201d every Sunday afternoon from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.<\/p>\n

Regular museum hours are 10:00am to 5:00pm Tuesday through Saturday, and 1:00pm to 5:00pm on Sundays. Adult admission is $7.00, Sr. Citizens and College ID $5.00, Ages 6 to 18 $3.00, and under six years and Museum members are free.<\/p>\n
