Both grew up fatherless in similar Baltimore neighborhoods and had difficult childhoods; both hung out on street corners with their crews; both ran into trouble with the police.<\/p>\n<p>How, then, did one grow up to be a Rhodes Scholar, decorated veteran, White House Fellow, and business leader, while the other ended up a convicted murderer serving a life sentence?<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_132861\" style=\"width: 485px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Wes-Moore.jpg\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-132861\" class=\"size-full wp-image-132861\" title=\"Author Wes Moore\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Wes-Moore.jpg\" alt=\"Author Wes Moore\" width=\"475\" height=\"356\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-132861\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Author Wes Moore<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!--more-->This fall, new students beginning their college careers at Austin Peay State University will explore that question and themes associated with The New York Times best-seller \u201cThe Other Wes Moore.\u201d In alternating narratives that take readers from heart-wrenching losses to moments of surprising redemption, \u201cThe Other Wes Moore\u201d tells the story of a generation of boys trying to find their way in a hostile world.<\/p>\n<p>This book was selected for APSU\u2019s annual reading initiative called The Peay Read. One of the highlights of this year\u2019s program will be a special presentation from the author, Wes Moore. He will speak at 7:00pm, Thursday, September 27th in the Dunn Center at APSU. The talk is free and open to the public. A book signing will follow his talk.<\/p>\n<p>The Peay Read is designed to provide a unifying experience and contribute to the academic experiences for freshmen students. However, the reading program also offers opportunities for the entire campus community.<\/p>\n<p>Moore\u2019s appearance on September 27th will be the highlight of The Peay Read festivities that will include a number of other activities:<\/p>\n<p><strong>September 17th:<\/strong> Dr. Brian Johnson, assistant vice president of academic affairs, will kick off The Peay Read at 7:00pm in Clement Auditorium.<\/p>\n<p><strong>September 18th:<\/strong> A book discussion will begin at 11:00am in the Morgan University Center, Room 306.<\/p>\n<p><strong>September 20th:<\/strong> A second book discussion will take place at 4:00pm in the Morgan University Center, Room 306.<\/p>\n<p><strong>September 24th:<\/strong> A panel discussion, titled \u201cVeterans and Attaining Your Degree,\u201d will be held at 4:00pm, in the Morgan University Center, Room 312.<\/p>\n<p><strong>September 27th:<\/strong> Before his talk, there will be a meet and greet with Wes Moore at 3:00pm in the Wilbur N.
