{"id":12140,"date":"2012-08-08T16:00:28","date_gmt":"2012-08-08T21:00:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.discoverclarksville.com\/articles\/?p=12140"},"modified":"2012-08-08T01:16:25","modified_gmt":"2012-08-08T06:16:25","slug":"austin-peay-state-university-named-2012-great-college-to-work-for","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.discoverclarksville.com\/articles\/2012\/08\/08\/austin-peay-state-university-named-2012-great-college-to-work-for\/","title":{"rendered":"Austin Peay State University named &#8220;2012 Great College To Work For&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-47306\" title=\"Austin Peay State University\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/apsu-logo-200x123.jpg\" alt=\"Austin Peay State University\" width=\"200\" height=\"123\" \/><strong>Clarksville, TN<\/strong> &#8211; Austin Peay State University is one of the best colleges in the nation to work for, according to a new survey by The Chronicle of Higher Education.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, APSU was the only public university in Tennessee to make the list.<\/p>\n<p>The results, released today in The Chronicle\u2019s fifth annual report on The Academic Workplace, are based on a survey of more than 46,000 employees at 294 colleges and universities.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/2012-Great-College-To-Work-For.gif\"  class=\"thickbox no_icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-131077\" title=\"2012 Great College To Work For\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clarksvilleonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/2012-Great-College-To-Work-For-480x416.gif\" alt=\"2012 Best Colleges To Work For\" width=\"480\" height=\"416\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><!--more-->In all, only 103 of the 294 institutions achieved \u201cGreat College to Work For\u201d recognition for specific best practices and policies. Results are reported for small, medium, and large institutions, with APSU included among the large universities with 10,000 or more students.<\/p>\n<h3>APSU won honors in five categories this year:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Collaborative Governance<\/li>\n<li>Professional\/Career Development Programs<\/li>\n<li>Teaching Environment<\/li>\n<li>Confidence in Senior Leadership<\/li>\n<li>Tenure Clarity and Process<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Because APSU was recognized in several categories, APSU will receive Honor Roll recognition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a very satisfying affirmation of APSU, but our real goal is not recognition \u2013 it\u2019s being a community that values the needs and contributions of every individual. In that sense everyone at APSU helps to make this a great place to work,\u201d APSU President Tim Hall said.<\/p>\n<p>The Chronicle is the nation\u2019s most important source of news about colleges and universities.<\/p>\n<p>[320left]\u201cThe institutions that the Great Colleges program recognizes provide innovative educational experiences \u2013 while also offering their employees outstanding workplace experiences \u2013 and we are eager to help readers learn more about them,\u201d said Liz McMillen, The Chronicle\u2019s editor.<\/p>\n<p>The survey results are based on a two-part assessment process: an institutional audit that captured demographics and workplace policies from each institution, and a survey administered to faculty, administrators and professional support staff.
