\"TheClarksville, TN<\/strong> – Visions & Feelings, a new exhibit by Tennessee artist Linda Kerlin embodies a sense of the fanciful. Delicate women collaged into a mixed media frenzy of color and script leads the viewer feeling like they have stumbled into someone\u2019s diary.<\/p>\n

These works are inspired by Kerlin\u2019s environment and her love of antiques, decorating, and landscaping. Each painting displayed in the museum\u2019s Harvill Gallery certainly is telling stories within the canvas and paper.Works such as Alla Nazimova and The Past Is Behind Us mesh together modern abstraction and Victorian portraiture, leaving onlookers to wonder the relationship between artist and items.<\/p>\n

Linda is a member of the TN Watercolor Society, Southern Watercolor Society, Mountain Art Guild, and Association of Visual Arts of Chattanooga. She has participated in both juried and group shows throughout the US and her work has won many awards.<\/p>\n

Kerlin\u2019s paintings are held in private collections in North Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Texas, and Michigan. She states, \u201cTo me, painting is a way to convey ideas in a compelling way. I strive to push beyond a photographic image and provide a balance between abstraction and realism. My paintings try to express the memories of the many places I have lived.\u201d<\/p>\n

Current exhibits also at the Customs House Museum include The 2012 National Juried Exhibition, Outdoors In: The Paintings of Lori Putnam (through July 15th), and the A-Maze-ing Maze, which is themed in conjunction with the exhibit Taking Position: A Civil War Retrospective.<\/p>\n

The museum will open a new exhibit The Tattoo: Stories on Skin on July 19th. Visions & Feelings will be on display through August 26th in the Planters Bank Peg Harvill Gallery, located in the museum\u2019s historic 1898 building.<\/p>\n

About the Customs House Museum<\/h3>\n

Located in the heart of historic downtown Clarksville, Tennessee, the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center is the State\u2019s second largest general museum. With over 35,000 square feet of the region\u2019s best hands-on activities and special events\u2026people of all ages agree \u2013 the Customs House Museum is well worth the stop!<\/p>\n

Regular museum hours are 10:00am to 5:00pm Tuesday through Saturday, and 1:00pm to 5:00pm on Sundays. Adult admission is $7.00, Sr. Citizens and College ID $5.00, Ages 6 to 18 $3.00, and under six years and Museum members are free.<\/p>\n
