\"TheClarksville, TN<\/strong> – The Customs House Museum and Cultural Center is located in historic downtown Clarksville, Tennessee. Come explore an entire city block featuring large gallery spaces filled with fine art, science and history.<\/p>\n

In the month of April, the Museum will feature The Art of Annamaria Gundlach, The Words of Women, The Unfortunate Fate: Titanic 1912, Civil War Medicine, \u201cLet\u2019s Find Doors\u201d, Customs House Museum’s Open House and so much more.<\/p>\n

Exhibits<\/h3>\n

Form: The Art of Annamaria Gundlach<\/h4>\n

Professional clay artist Annamaria Gundlach creates wall reliefs and standing sculptures rooted in the female form. On exhibit through April 29th.<\/p>\n

The Words of Women<\/h4>\n

A Women’s History Month exhibit that marries vintage ladies\u2019 items with an original story or poem written by a local or regional female author about that object. On exhibit through May 6th.<\/p>\n

Quantum Confusion: An Installation by Denise Stewart Sanabria<\/h4>\n

Artist Denise Stewart Sanabria explores the idea of portals with eleven full scale charcoal portraits on cut-out plywood. On exhibit through May 20th.<\/p>\n

The Unfortunate Fate: Titanic 1912<\/h4>\n

Commemorates the 100th anniversary of the ship going down. In the Bruner Gallery through May 20th.<\/p>\n

Recent Acquisitions: Highlighting Items from the Collection<\/h4>\n

Included is Dollhouse: A Series by Eric Hansen. The first run of photographs on aluminum have been donated to the museum by the award-winning photographer. Opens April 10th.<\/p>\n

Civil War Medicine<\/h4>\n

This exhibit focuses on items, techniques & situations created to address medical needs in the mid \u2013 late 1800\u2019s. Opens April 13th (opening date subject to change).<\/p>\n

Celebrating 1898: Artifacts & History<\/h4>\n

Information and artifacts from the collection from the timeframe that the 1898 building was built will be on display in celebration of its reopening. Opens April 13th (opening date subject to change).<\/p>\n

Activities<\/h3>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s Find Doors\u201d<\/h4>\n

April 11th & 12th, 10:30am \u2013 11:30am<\/strong>
\nChildren 3 \u2013 5 years old and their grown-ups are invited to explore the museum from a child\u2019s perspective. This month we will be looking for doors and what\u2019s behind them! We will also read a story and make a craft. This activity is free to museum members. Non-members pay the regular adult admission of $7.00, plus $2.00 per child. Siblings are always welcome.<\/p>\n

Film Screening: Miss Representation<\/h4>\n

Thursday, April 12th, 7:00pm, Admission: $3,00, Museum Members free.<\/strong>
\nWritten and directed by Jennifer Siebel Newsom, Miss Representation exposes how mainstream media contributes to the under-representation of women in positions of power and influence in America. The film challenges the media’s limited and often disparaging portrayals of women and girls, which make it difficult for women to achieve leadership positions and for the average woman to feel powerful herself. Part of the Women’s History Month Celebration.<\/p>\n

Writers Panel Discussion<\/h4>\n

Saturday, April 14th, 1:00pm. Free admission.<\/strong>
\nWriters discuss getting published, The Muse: Finding Inspiration, and challenges when writing about history. Part of the Women’s History Month Celebration.<\/p>\n

Art & Lunch Film: Sylvia Hyman: Eternal Wonder<\/h4>\n

Thursday, April 19th, 12:15pm in the Turner Auditorium.<\/strong>
\nFree admission; bagged lunches welcome.
\nAs a master of “Trompe L’oeil clay,” Hyman’s sculptures inspire both disorientation and delight when viewers realize that everyday objects that appear to be made of wood, cardboard and paper are actually superbly realized simulations made of clay.<\/p>\n

Customs House Museum’s Open House<\/h4>\n

Saturday, April 28th, 10:00am-5:00pm. Free admission.<\/strong>
\nThe 1898 building reopens after months of renovation! All galleries, including the Explorers’ Gallery, will be accessible. Everyone is invited to come see the changes with complimentary admission all day. Enjoy the renovated 1898 Customs House Museum structure, including the restored and open spaces of Heritage Hall.<\/p>\n

The museum will be closed Sunday, April 8th for Easter Sunday.<\/p>\n
