\"AustinClarksville, TN<\/strong> – Dr. Korre Foster, assistant professor of music, has heard the Austin Peay State University music program described as \u201cThe Best Kept Secret in Tennessee.\u201d It\u2019s the word \u201csecret\u201d that he intends to change.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s why this March, Foster is taking the Chamber Singers, APSU\u2019s premiere choral ensemble, on a tour of west Tennessee.<\/p>\n

Austin Peay State University Chamber Singers<\/p><\/div>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s one of our most tangible recruiting efforts,\u201d Foster said. \u201cHigh school students get to hear the name Austin Peay State University Chamber Singers, and they get to see them and hear them. It lets them know we\u2019re on the map.\u201d<\/p>\n

The APSU students will spend their days in local high schools, collaborating with students and talking about the University\u2019s choral program. At night, the Chamber Singers will perform free concerts for the communities they are visiting.<\/p>\n

The tour\u2019s performances and times include:<\/h3>\n

12:30pm, March 4th<\/strong>, First Presbyterian Church, Nashville.<\/p>\n

7:00pm, March 5th<\/strong>, Grace United Methodist Church, Jackson.<\/p>\n

7:00pm, March 6th<\/strong>, St. Peter\u2019s Catholic Church, Memphis.<\/p>\n

7:00pm, March 8th<\/strong>, Christ Church United Methodist, Memphis.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s also good for our University students because it gives them an idea what professional musicians do when it comes to touring and traveling the United States or the world for that matter,\u201d Foster said.<\/p>\n

During the tour\u2019s evening concerts, the Chamber Singers will perform works ranging in style from the English Renaissance to American Lutheranism to turn-of-the-century French music. The APSU students will sing songs in English, French, Hebrew, Latin and Yoruba.<\/p>\n

When the tour ends, the group will return to APSU to begin preparing for their annual spring choral concert, titled \u201cMusic of the British Isles.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the time they spend together making music during the tour, the choir really comes together not only technically, but socially and spiritually,\u201d Foster said.<\/p>\n
