Come explore an entire city block featuring large gallery spaces filled with fine art, science and history.<\/p>\n<p>In the month of March, the Museum will feature Richard LeFevre: The Civil War Series, Assemblages: The Art of Sandra Paynter Washburn, The Words of Women, Writer&#8217;s Hour, Spring Break Activities and so much more.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h3>Exhibits<\/h3>\n<h4>Richard LeFevre: The Civil War Series<\/h4>\n<p>LeFevre\u2019s paintings from the collection of UT Knoxville document the important battles of the Civil War, including those at Gettysburg, Chattanooga, Vicksburg, Shiloh, Chickamauga, and Knoxville. On exhibit through March.<\/p>\n<h4>Assemblages: The Art of Sandra Paynter Washburn<\/h4>\n<p>This exhibit features mixed media paintings, sculptural pieces and jewelry by nationally known artist Sandra Paynter Washburn. On exhibit through March 11th.<\/p>\n<h4>A-B-C: From the Museum Collection<\/h4>\n<p>Various objects from our collection represent the letters of the alphabet. On exhibit through April 1st.<\/p>\n<h4>Form: The Art of Annamaria Gundlach<\/h4>\n<p>Professional clay artist Annamaria Gundlach creates wall reliefs and standing sculptures rooted in the female form. On exhibit March 2nd through April 29th.<\/p>\n<h4>The Words of Women<\/h4>\n<p>A Women&#8217;s History Month exhibit that marries vintage ladies\u2019 items with an original story or poem written by a local or regional female author about that object. On exhibit March 2nd through May 6th.<\/p>\n<h4>Quantum Confusion: An Installation by Denise Stewart Sanabria<\/h4>\n<p>Artist Denise Stewart Sanabria explores the idea of portals with eleven full scale charcoal portraits on cut-out plywood. On exhibit March 15th through May 20th.<\/p>\n<h3>Activities<\/h3>\n<h4>Writer&#8217;s Hour<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Thursday, March 8th, 6:30pm \u2013 8:00pm Free admission.<\/strong><br \/>\nLocal writers read from their work in the gallery. Refreshments served.<\/p>\n<h4>\u201cLet\u2019s Find Faces\u201d<\/h4>\n<p><strong>March 7th &amp; 8th, 10:30am \u2013 11:30am.<\/strong><br \/>\nChildren 3 \u2013 5 years old and their grown-ups are invited to explore the museum from a child\u2019s perspective. After looking for faces in wood, stone, paintings, and photographs, we will read a story and make a craft.<\/p>\n<p>This activity is free to museum members. Non-members pay the regular adult admission of $7.00, plus $2.00 per child. From the Great Women Artists Series. Wednesday, March 14th, 12:05pm in the Turner Auditorium.<\/p>\n<p>Free admission; bagged lunches welcome.<\/p>\n<h4>The Power of Women<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Saturday, March 17th. Tickets $25.00; Museum members $15.00.<\/strong><br \/>\nThis Women&#8217;s History Day celebration will feature educational sessions, panel discussions, and a brunch catered by the Choppin\u2019 Block, served from 10:00am to 1:30pm in the museum\u2019s U.S. Bank Dining Room. There will also be a performance by Thandiwe Shihrah, a multi-disciplinary artist who has published many books, including Leftover Light:Poems and Don\u2019t Make No Sense: A Creative Response to Your Life\u2019s True Calling.<\/p>\n<p>For more information contact Terri Jordan, Exhibits Curator, at 931.648.5780.<\/p>\n<h4>Sunday Family Fun &#8211; \u201cA Collage about Me!\u201d<\/h4>\n<p><strong>March 25th, 1:00pm \u2013 5:00pm.<\/strong><br \/>\nA collage is a work of art made by using pieces of paper, pictures, and words glued to a sheet of paper. Visit the museum to create a collage that tells something about you. You may bring a picture of yourself to include in your collage. Pre-school children may choose to make a collage with pictures of animals. This activity is free with paid admission or your museum membership.<\/p>\n<p>For more information, contact Sue Lewis at 931.648.5780.<\/p>\n<h4>Spring Break Activities<\/h4>\n<p><strong>March 27th, 28th, &amp; 29th, 10:00am &#8211; 1:00pm, and March 30th, 12:00pm &#8211; 3:00pm.<\/strong><br \/>\nAlthough the Explorers\u2019 Gallery may still be closed, there will be fun things to do at the museum while the kids are out of school this week. The model trains will be running and there will be a variety of craft activities available in the classroom.
