Elected officials, business leaders among 25 people selected to examine transit opportunities of the future<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

\"LipscombNashville, TN<\/strong> – The Transit Alliance of Middle Tennessee and Lipscomb University\u2019s Nelson and Sue Andrews Institute for Civic Leadership kicked off the second Transit Citizen Leadership Academy Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The institute\u2019s Transit Citizen Leadership Academy brings together 25 private, public and non-profit leaders representing economic and community development, real estate, construction, government, insurance, health care, banking, retail, sales and marketing, agriculture and utilities.<\/p>\n

Participants were nominated by mayors and city managers throughout the Middle Tennessee region. For the full list of participants and their titles, visit www.lipscomb.edu\/civicleadership.<\/a> Click on \u201cCurrent Class List\u201d under \u201cTransit Citizen Leadership Academy.\u201d<\/p>\n

The second class includes three local leaders from Montgomery County<\/h4>\n

  • Arthur Bing<\/strong>, Deputy Director, Clarksville Transit System<\/li>\n
  • Mark Riggins<\/strong>, Montgomery County Commissioner, Engineering Support Coordinator, Clarksville Gas and Water<\/li>\n
  • Stan Williams<\/strong>, Coordinator, Clarksville Urbanized Area MPO<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    \u201cThere is a rising awareness all across our region of the absolute importance of giving Middle Tennesseans more choices when it comes to transportation,\u201d said Charles Bone, chairman of the Transit Alliance of Middle Tennessee. \u201cThis is particularly true with opportunities for rapid transit and graduates of our Transit Academy.<\/p>\n

    Ed Cole, executive director of the Transit Alliance of Middle Tennessee, added:<\/p>\n

    \u201cThe members of the second class of the Academy will be important messengers for public understanding. This class certainly will benefit and build on the tremendous progress made by the graduates of our first class last year.\u201d<\/p>\n

    [320left]Linda Peek Schacht, executive director of the Andrews Institute said Lipscomb University is honored to continue its partnership with the Transit Alliance. \u201cThe Transit Citizen Leadership Academy supports our commitment to produce educated, informed civic leaders making decisions for the common good. That kind of collaborative leadership is necessary to successfully address the complex issues facing our region today.\u201d<\/p>\n
