Clarksville Parks and Recreation launches “Bike Walk Clarksville”

City of Clarksville - Clarksville, TNClarksville, TN – Bike Walk Clarksville, a group of citizens on a mission to promote a more bicycle and pedestrian-friendly community, got rolling this week with a formative meeting at Wilma Rudolph Events Center.

The next meeting is scheduled for 6:00pm Tuesday, March 13th, 2018 at a site to be announced soon. Organizers have set up online sites to inform and connect members.

Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department organized Tuesday’s meeting, which was attended by 38 people, including representatives from these groups:

Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan said she is encouraged by Bike Walk Clarksville’s strong start.

“We know that biking, walking and running are priority activities for City residents,” Mayor McMillan said. “So we are excited about engaging with citizens and growing a bike/walk advocacy group for our community.”

Education was a frequent topic of discussion at the group’s inaugural meeting, and thoughts were offered about how to better inform drivers, cyclists, pedestrians and youth on safety and road-sharing procedures.

Shared-use paths as an alternative to sidewalks were discussed. Members also ranked some priorities for the group, which include:
