Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to announce the newest member of our staff and Historical Interpreter, William Parker. Parker graduated from Austin Peay State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in History and Political Science.
He was selected by the History Department to study at Oxford University in Oxford, England where he completed two semesters. Parker earned his Master of Arts Degree in Military History at Austin Peay where he graduated with honors.
Parker’s background includes service in the United States Army Reserves as well as docent and public tour guide for both the Travelers’ Rest Historical Home and the Sam Davis Home. He is currently an adjunct professor at Austin Peay State University primarily teaching American History 1861 to present.
The Fort Defiance Interpretive Center featuring multi-media interpretive exhibits will open to the public April 9th, 2011. Parker will be leading tours and helping visitors understand the complex and fascinating chain of events that took place at the fort during the Civil War and Reconstruction.
