Clarksville Parks and Recreation Summer Youth Program to feature Activity Packs, Virtual Programming

Clarksville Parks and Recreation DepartmentClarksville, TN – Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department will not host an in-person Summer Youth Program this year to ensure the safety of the public during the COVID-19 Coronavirus outbreak. However, plans have been finalized for a free “virtual” summer camp experience!

The virtual camp will be June 1st to July 10th and will consist of two components: weekly activity packs that children can enjoy at home, and virtual programming which will be shared online and on the Clarksville Community Network. Children can participate in one or both components.

Meals to be served at Summer Youth Program sites

Clarksville Parks and Recreation DepartmentClarksville, TN – Clarksville Parks and Recreation is participating in the Summer Food Service Program throughout the duration of the City’s Summer Youth Program.

At 14 of the 15 program sites (all sites excluding Crow Recreation Center) meals will be provided to all children without charge and are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age, disability, and reprisal or retaliation for prior civil rights activity, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service (not all prohibited bases apply to all programs).

Clarksville Downtown Market to open May 20th

Clarksville Downtown MarketClarksville, TN – When the 2017 Clarksville Downtown Market opens on Saturday, May 20th, 2017 approximately 80 vendors will be on hand to offer fresh produce, baked goods, local honey, milk, home décor, seasonal flowers and more.

Clarksville Downtown Market will be open from 8:00am to 1:00pm on Saturdays through October 14th on Public Square.

Opening Day of the Market also will feature entertainment by Hank Baker and Hui Hawaii O Tenesi Hawaiian Civic Club; activities for children provided by this year’s Market sponsor, Season’s Market and Bump & Rump; free health screenings, courtesy of Medical Direct Care; and market tote giveaways provided by Altra Federal Credit Union.

APSU is joined by 26 tenure-track faculty

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – A total of 26 new tenure-track faculty members have become part of the Austin Peay State University community, beginning with the Fall 2014 semester.

Dr. Kadi Bliss, assistant professor of health and human performance, earned her Ph.D. in health education from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. Making the presentation are Deneen Clayton and Shinika Jenkins, GRH loan specialists, and Don Harris, GRH Housing program director. Accepting the award for F&M are: DeWayne Olive, executive vice president and chief financial officer; Denise Alexander, vice president and mortgage operation manager; Yvonne Witzler, assistant vice president and manager for the bank’s Clarksville mortgage office; and Rodney Wilds, manager for the bank’s Brentwood mortgage office.

Providing proper nutrition options is especially important for those children in low-income areas so they may learn, grow and be active throughout the summer months.

Dr. Thomas King, professor of music, sang the world premiere performance of Libby Larsen’s “I Cried unto the Lord with my Voice” at the Athena Women’s Music Festival held March 2nd at Murray (Ky.)
