Big Fish reeled in at Montgomery County Fishing Rodeo

Clarksville, TN – It was partly sunny, and warm with a slight breeze Saturday morning, perfect weather for the Montgomery County Fishing Rodeo hosted by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA).
The event was for children 5 to 15 years old and took place at the Liberty Park Pond.

Nashville, TN – Tennessee’s 2021 Free Fishing Day is set for Saturday, June 12th when anyone may fish free without a license in Tennessee’s public waters. Academy Sports + Outdoors has generously sponsored this year’s events statewide with fishing gear and giveaways.
The Montgomery County Fishing Rodeo will begin June 12th at 8:00am and go until 12:00am CT at Liberty Park pond. Over 50 kids are expected to take part. The event is for children 5 to 15 years old.

Clarksville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency (TWRA) partnered once again with Clarksville Parks and Recreation to host its annual Youth Fishing Rodeo at Liberty Park.
TWRA’s Nate Thompson talked about the event and why it’s important to his agency and the community it serves.
“TWRA has been doing this for at least 15 years, that’s longer than I’ve been here,” Thompson said. “This year we have at least 200 kids signed up. Today’s rodeo just gives them that fishing experience, and for many of them, it’s their first time.”

Clarksville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) has announced that the 2019 Free Fishing Day in Tennessee when anyone may fish free without a license in Tennessee’s public waters is this Saturday, June 8th.
TWRA and Clarksville Parks and Recreation will be holding their annual Youth Fishing Rodeo at Liberty Park’s pond on Saturday, June 8th, 2019 from 7:00am to 9:30am.
Over 300 participants are expected. The age limit for the event is 0 to 16 years of age.

APSU biology grad students continue to excel in their research

Clarksville, TN – Since about 1950, the small-scale darter—a tiny fish that lives in tributaries of the Cumberland River—has existed in relative obscurity. Few scientists have heard of the darter or checked to see if the fish is in danger of disappearing.
But for the last year and a half, Joshua Stonecipher, a graduate student with the Austin Peay State University Center of Excellence for Field Biology, has waded into local streams, trying to get an accurate estimate of the darter’s population size.
Austin Peay State University Graduate Student Megan Hart First Recipient of Robert M. Hatcher Scholarship

Nashville, TN – Megan Hart, a graduate student at Austin Peay State University, is the first recipient of the Robert M. Hatcher Memorial Scholarship.
The $1,000 scholarship is named in honor of Bob Hatcher, who served the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency for 38 years including serving as the Non-Game and Endangered Species Coordinator from 1987 until 2001.
Megan completed her bachelor’s degree in biology in 2015 with a perfect 4.0 grade point average. She is pursuing her master’s degree in biology, focusing on conservation and wildlife biology.

Clarksville, TN – Despite hot weather, 215 kids descended on the Liberty Park Saturday, June 11th for the annual Youth Fishing Rodeo held by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) in partnership with the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department. The event gives the youth of Clarksville an opportunity to enjoy a day of free fishing.
“Today is our annual free fishing day here with the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department. This is our 14th year of coming out and offering this event for kids 16 years and younger,” stated TWRA officer Jereme Odom.
