APSU hires Dr. Rex Gandy as new Provost, V.P. for Academic Affairs

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University has hired Dr. Rex Gandy as its new Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Gandy, who is slated to begin work at APSU on June 1st, currently serves in the same position at Texas A&M University-Kingsville, a position he has held since 2009.

Gandy follows former Provost Tristan Denley, who serves as Vice Chancellor of the Tennessee Board of Regents, and Dr. Jaime Taylor, who has served as Interim Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs since 2013.

APSU art students earn several awards and scholarships

Austin Peay State University Department of Art - APSUClarksville, TN – February turned out to be a good month for the Austin Peay State University Department of Art, with several students earning prestigious awards and scholarships.

Graphic design student Brooke Mckee was awarded a Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) scholarship for winning a Design Center student competition to design the visual identity for TBR’s Critical Conversations Initiative. [Read more]

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University President Tim Hall announced today that he has accepted the position of president at Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, NY. His nearly seven-year tenure at APSU, which marked a period of tremendous growth and national prominence for the University, will come to an end later this spring.

“Lee and I will be departing Austin Peay at the end of the spring semester as I assume the position of president of Mercy College in New York,” Hall wrote in an email message to the campus community today. “We do so with excitement and anticipation at the prospect of new challenges, but with a measure of sadness that we will be leaving a place where we have enjoyed some of the happiest years of our lives.”

APSU administrators have new titles this year

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Two members of the Austin Peay State University community returned to campus this fall with new job titles in order to maintain the University’s status as a thriving institution of higher education.

President Obama highlighted that status in August when he singled out APSU as a leader in using technology to better serve students.

Austin Peay State University provost Dr. Tristan Denley to take position as vice chancellor at Tennessee Board of Regents

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – APSU’s chief academic official, Dr. Tristan Denley who currently serves as Provost, has informed the campus community that he has accepted a position with the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) as Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, pending an official vote by the TBR.

Tentative plans are for Denley to begin in his new role with TBR in August.

Two APSU Students earn prestigious Goldwater Scholarships

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Administrators at the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) were probably pretty excited last month when they learned one of their students had earned a highly competitive Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship.

To the south, officials at the University of Tennessee likely experienced a similar rush when they heard one of their students was also named a Goldwater Scholar.

Austin Peay State University begins Three-Year Bachelor’s degrees, 3+1 Bachelor’s to Master’s programs in Spring 2013

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Beginning with the Spring 2013 semester, students at Austin Peay State University will be able to earn their degrees faster so they can seek employment sooner after graduation.

Austin Peay State University tapped for Tennessee Higher Education Commission increase recommendation in state performance funding for 2013-14

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – For the second year in a row, Austin Peay State University leads Tennessee’s four-year institutions in increasing the retention and graduation successes of its students, according to a report released today during the fall quarterly meeting of the Tennessee Higher Education Commission.

In its report, the THEC recommends that APSU receive a 12.9 percent increase in funding for 2013-14, based on the second year of the funding formula. [Read more]

APSU introduces My Future to work with Degree Compass

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – This week and next, students at Austin Peay State University are registering for their spring semester courses, and many of them are using the Degree Compass course recommendation tool to help them decide which courses to take.

Now, there is another computerized planning tool that works with Degree Compass. Called My Future, the new program suggests which majors are the best fit for each student’s academic talents. [Read more]
