APSU honors military and veterans during month of November

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU), one of the state’s leading providers of higher education to military-connected students and their families, has a long history of supporting veterans on campus and within the community.
This month, in recognition of Veterans Day, the University is hosting several events in honor of the men and women who have served this country.

APSU receives $79,954 in THEC funding to help veterans and service members earn degrees

Clarksville, TN – The Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC) recently announced that Austin Peay State University will receive $79,954 in additional funding and program support to serve veterans and service members and help them earn post-secondary degrees as a part of Governor Bill Haslam’s Drive to 55.
Austin Peay is one of 13 colleges and universities in Tennessee to receive a portion of the $760,781 in total Veteran Reconnect funds to support programs and services for student veterans at campuses across the state.

Since the early 1960s, prospective students and area manufacturers have asked that question, and today (May 11th, 2017), the Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC) finally provided them with an answer.

APSU hosting Military Appreciation Day during November 5th football game

Clarksville, TN – This Saturday, November 5th, 2016, the Austin Peay State University athletics department will honor local veterans and military-affiliated individuals with a special Military Appreciation Day during APSU’s 4:00pm football game at Fortera Stadium.
All veterans, active-duty personnel and their families will receive free admission to the game with a current military I.D., and several military vehicles will be on display in tailgate alley and inside the stadium.

APSU nursing student wins THEC community service award

Clarksville, TN – Navdeep Saini, who may well be the nicest student attending Austin Peay State University, doesn’t like to talk about himself that much. If pressed, he’ll admit that he speaks six languages and has a degree in biotechnology (that he earned in Russian), but talking about his accomplishments seems to embarrass him.
He looked particularly shy at APSU’s Einstein Bros. Bagels coffee shop earlier this month when someone asked Saini about another accolade.

APSU College of Business adds new degree programs

Clarksville, TN – Earlier this fall, the Austin Peay State University College of Business took a major step toward earning professional accreditation through the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) when it began modifying its existing academic programs.
For years, APSU business students had only one degree option—a Bachelor of Business Administration—with seven different concentrations in accounting, finance, economics, management, international management, general business and marketing.

APSU named VETS Campus by state commission

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s longstanding support of military veterans has led the Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC) to name the University a Veterans Education Transition Support (VETS) Campus.
According to THEC, VETS Campus certification is awarded to higher education institutions that “not only prioritize outreach to veterans, but successfully deliver the services necessary to create a supportive environment where student veterans can prosper while pursuing their education.”

Austin Peay State University tapped for Tennessee Higher Education Commission increase recommendation in state performance funding for 2013-14

Clarksville, TN – For the second year in a row, Austin Peay State University leads Tennessee’s four-year institutions in increasing the retention and graduation successes of its students, according to a report released today during the fall quarterly meeting of the Tennessee Higher Education Commission.
In its report, the THEC recommends that APSU receive a 12.9 percent increase in funding for 2013-14, based on the second year of the funding formula. [Read more]

Improvement in Graduations best among Tennessee Universities
Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University continues to move toward the 11,000-student mark. Figures for the Fall 2011 semester show a record enrollment of 10,873 students at APSU.
But APSU has more reason to celebrate. Not only is enrollment increasing, but APSU also is graduating more students than ever.
While growth in student enrollment is vital for any postsecondary institution, APSU, like other public institutions in Tennessee, is being assessed by retention and graduation performance. [Read more]
