APSU makes impression at Tennessee Academy of Science’s Centennial Meeting

Clarksville, TN – Earlier this month, a group of Austin Peay State University students and faculty members traveled to Vanderbilt University and made an impressive showing at the Tennessee Academy of Science’s Centennial Meeting.
During that meeting, which celebrated the 100th gathering of the state’s top scientific and mathematical minds, several members of the APSU community were recognized for their outstanding work. In the math and computer science competition of the meeting, chaired by APSU associate professor of mathematics Dr. Ben Ntatin, APSU students placed first and second in oral presentations of their research. Clarksville, TN – Scientists in all fields often face the challenge of explaining to the public why their research is important. Scientific jargon and technical terms often bog down interviews and simple conversations, occasionally leaving people more confused than when they started listening to these individuals.
On November 7th, a group of Austin Peay State University faculty members and students traveled to Knoxville for a National Science Foundation workshop that addressed this exact problem. [Read more]
Austin Peay State University students traveled to Wisconsin for annual MathFest Conference

Clarksville, TN – In early August, when many students dread the approaching academic year, seven Austin Peay State University students eagerly jumpstarted their semester by traveling to Madison, WI, for the Mathematics Association of America’s annual MathFest Conference.
Four of the students gave presentations, one student had a job interview with the National Security Agency and another student developed plans to found a chapter of the National Association of Women in Mathematics at APSU. [Read more]
Austin Peay State University students earn top awards at Tennessee Academy of Science Conference

Clarksville, TN – Last October, a group of Austin Peay State University mathematics and computer science students headed south to Jackson, TN, to attend the 121st annual meeting of the Tennessee Academy of Science. The event, hosted by Union University, brought together some 200 researchers and college students from across the state for two intense days of academic presentations.
Everyone seemed to have a good time, but earlier this month, several of those students learned that the conference was more fruitful than they realized. That’s because the awards for presentations were recently announced, with first-, second- and third-place prizes all going to APSU students. [Read more]
