Cooling at the Cave back, bigger than ever

Clarksville, TN – The Friends of Dunbar Cave hosted its annual Cooling at the Cave on Saturday, July 27th, 2019, drawing what some said was the largest crowd ever for the event that takes the citizens of Clarksville more than half-a-century back in time.
Hundreds enjoyed the music of Clarksville’s own Cumberland Winds Jazz Project, under the direction of Mike Ritter. The band set up near the mouth of the cave, from which spills cool air year round. A feature that decades ago made Dunbar Cave the most popular venue in town.

Along with promotional materials about the APSU Department of Theater and Dance, he brought along a simple flyer announcing the department’s 2019-20 season.

Principal with LA Philharmonic to visit APSU as Acuff Chair for Clarinet Day

Clarksville, TN – On Sunday, September 23rd, 2018 Boris Allakhverdyan, principal clarinet in the Los Angeles Philharmonic, will visit Austin Peay State University for the APSU Department of Music’s annual Clarinet Day celebration.
The day will consist of master classes, recitals, breakout sessions from regional clarinet professors and teachers, vendors with mouthpieces, reeds, music and instruments to try and a clarinet choir for all participants.

Clarksville, TN – Dunbar Cave State Park will intrigue nature lovers, history buffs, spelunkers and budding archeologists. This 144-acre park in Clarksville is situated around Dunbar Cave which has the distinction of being the 280th largest cave complex in the world, stretching 8.5 miles toward the center of the earth.
The entrance to Dunbar Cave was inhabited by local prehistoric peoples for thousands of years before settlers arrived.
Austin Peay State University Art + Design and CECA celebrate Acuff class with new exhibit

Clarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University Department of Art + Design and the APSU Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts celebrate this year’s Acuff Chair of Excellence, Sonya Clark, with an exhibition of work created by students in the course, Measuring Histories.
The exhibition will be in The New Gallery for a one-day only event, opening on May 2nd, 2018 from 9:00am–5:00pm. The exhibit will reopen with a free public reception from 7:00pm-9:00pm, where Sonya Clark and student artists will be present.

Clarksville, TN – Award-winning textile artist Sonya Clark will return to the campus of Austin Peay State University as the 2017-2018 Acuff Chair of Excellence. Clark was selected as this year’s Acuff Chair by the faculty of the APSU Department of Art + Design after an overwhelmingly positive response to her first APSU visit in March 2017 as part of the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts (CECA) Visiting Artist Lecture series.
This spring, Clark will facilitate a course for APSU art students, titled “Measuring Histories,” which will be an in-depth extension of her featured PBS Art Assignment episode of the same name.
Tremendous turnout for Cooling at the Cave

Clarksville, TN – On Saturday, July 29th, 2017, the Friends of Dunbar Cave held their annual Cooling at the Cave event at Dunbar Cave State Park from 3:00pm until 5:00pm. Cooling at the Cave is a family event. This year’s music was provided by Cumberland Winds Jazz Project, an 18-piece ensemble that was perfect for the venue.
Cooling at the Cave is a celebration of the culture that was around the cave that Mr. Acuff brought to the area.

Comedy legends The Second City to return to APSU with new show

Clarksville, TN – At 7:30pm on Saturday, September 5th, Chicago’s famed sketch and improv comedy theater, The Second City, will return to Austin Peay State University’s Trahern Theatre with “The Second City: Fully Loaded.”
This new show will feature classic material made famous by Second City stars like Tina Fey, Stephen Colbert and Steve Carell, as well as brand new scenes, songs and improv from the theater’s sold-out shows in Chicago and Toronto.
