APSU’s Brown named dean of College of Behavioral and Health Sciences

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Dr. Tucker Brown, chair of the Austin Peay State University (APSU) Department of Sociology, was recently named dean of the University’s College of Behavioral and Health Sciences.

Dr. David Denton, former dean of the college, decided to return to the classroom in 2017, leaving the position open. Dr. Rebecca Corvey, professor of nursing, served as interim dean while the University conducted a national search to fill the position.

APSU, Chautauqua partner to award student residencies at New York art institution

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Starting next year, one or two Austin Peay State University (APSU) art students will spend each summer at the Visual Arts at Chautauqua Institution in New York, immersed in nine weeks of classes, workshops and one-on-one time with art mentors.

And they won’t have to pay a dime.

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University associate professor of English Dr. Mercy Cannon has a friendly, positive demeanor, but in the winter of 2014, she admits life became a bit of a challenge.

That January, less than a month after giving birth to her second child, she returned to campus to serve as APSU’s associate dean of the College of Arts and Letters. She was still recovering from major surgery (a cesarean section), sleep deprived and anxious about being away from her baby daughter.

Beginning this fall, the APSU Eriksson College of Education will offer a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) degree in Educational Leadership for K-12 professionals looking to advance their careers.

Earlier this month, the program received its final approval from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) —the region’s higher education accrediting body.

Dr. Mickey Hepner appointed new dean of APSU College of Business

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University has appointed Dr. Mickey A. Hepner as the new dean of APSU’s College of Business, effective January 2nd, 2018.

Hepner comes to Austin Peay from the University of Central Oklahoma, where he served as dean of the university’s College of Business from 2011-17, as well as a professor in the college.

APSU’s Phi Alpha Theta wins eighth Best Chapter Award

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – While much of America focused on each word said during the recent first presidential debate, something else was gnawing at the back of the mind of Austin Peay State University professor of history, Dr. Minoa Uffelman.

For the last seven years, the University’s Phi Alpha Theta National Honor Society (PAT), which Uffelman advises, has been recognized each fall with the national Best Chapter Award, but September was drawing to a close without word on a possible eighth consecutive award.
